Marazion was awash with thousands of Wind Sailors this afternoon, these Hydrozoa are free floating animals that live out to sea in vast numbers. They primarily feed on plankton and use nematocyst toxin to catch their prey, so do wash your hands afterwards if you pick them up.

Oxygen supersaturation has been reported to protect aquatic animals from heat waves. We tested this in a large collaborative experiment on many species of fish and crustaceans. Our new paper in @plosbiology.org shows that the effect of hyperoxia on thermal tolerance is negligible. Unfortunately.

Proud to announce our first R package, just published in CRAN! (cran.r-project.org/package=hear...).
It streamlines heart rate analysis collected with the PULSE system, which we also developed and can be used to monitor the cardiac performance of mollusks and crustaceans (electricblue.eu/pulse).

I love it. We just did the same in NW Spain over the last few days!

Spring tides in the Spring (pun intended) mean that our entire team is busy in the field. This past couple of days we were simultaneously working in Norway, Spain and several locations in Portugal. @coastalwarming.bsky.social
