These are interesting times for the rule of law, but we are trying to "stay in our own lane" and limit comments to bikes.
@bikeleague.org tells us that USDOT now claims that Bike lanes are "hostile" to cars & βno longer in the public interestβ
Please speak up here:

Like those pesky people on bicycles, those rocks obviously came out of nowhere.
Wait, what people on bicycles?
Columbus Ohio scary street as depicted in its Vision Zero action plan
Seeing this image from VisionZeroNetwork.org made me wonder if it was the street I rode into to work on this morning.
It's not, it's from Ohio. Does it look too familiar to you?
We can do better than this... safer streets help everyone!
Head starts are nice, but how much safer would we be if cars did not get a green light if it conflicts with a walk light?
Why is this not an option? Especially for walk lights that donβt automatically cycle and only turn green with a beg button.
Takeaway- Talk is cheap and facts are optional. Actually improving safety requires considering the factual root causes of dangers and takes real money to build or rebuild better.

Spoiler Alert- funding of safety-related grants is about 90% less now than under the previous administration.
Should transportation planning prioritize safety over political statements?
Yes.
AND⦠cutting funding while making statements about rainbow crosswalks rather than the lack of marked crosswalks and other safety infrastructure is not the way to do that.
Here's a 15 minute overview of the science of street safety by Jesse Singer, author of "There Are No Accidents."
If you don't have 15 minutes, start at 8:41 where she uses the hierarchy of controls to explain why most of what we do in the US is the least effective way to increase safety.
Washington State Is About to Have the First Pro-"Woonerf" Law in America.

Meanwhile in Florida, βAnd so if you drive off and you hit one of these people, that's their fault for impinging on you."
I donβt expect cameras at every marked crosswalk, but starting by schools makes sense to me.
10.06.2025 00:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thatβs why we should have cameras at marked crosswalks. Automated enforcement with fines based upon car value, information the state already has.
09.06.2025 14:58 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I noticed that too. Mayor Harrell is missing the essence of Vision Zero.
The most effective way to increase safety is to eliminate dangers, not by using administrative controls like policing. We need safer infrastructure.

28.05.2025 19:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A new study refutes the current US DOT's purported concern that adding bike lanes might lure people into unsafe conditions.
Bike Lanes make streets safer; more general-use lanes, higher traffic volumes, and higher speed limits make them more dangerous.
Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.
ALL ROAD USERS.
And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.
For sharrows, itβs actually safer to NOT have them.
