Retired Sociology/Demography professor. I know the United States has an awfully high middle aged death rate. My goal is to explain it well enough to get people to fix it.

Thanks for posting this. I am still hacking away at county data. If counties with large minority populations were analyzed separately, it could help us understand it.

Your assumption is right. I through it was going to be purple when I made it. Just failed to check on what I got. Sorry.

Two points. First I have been trying to put county data together but I keep running into problems. I had it set up to do the mixed as purple, I havenโ€™t figured out why it changed. Sorry.

Just visited the CDC on line data source this morning, it was down last night. Trump's censors have ended the available data at 2016, data through 2023 was yesterday. I have previously downloaded some of the later data and will be posting some comparisons. ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ’กโ˜ ๏ธ #Sociology #Population #News #Think

The problem race only exist in the eye of the beholder. And to attach it to skin color was done to make slaves easy to identify, not based on genetics. When you start with a big lie you waste the rest of your intellectual life.

You need to add Oklahoma to them and be pretty close.

No, I look at the distributions, not generalize from the change in correlation. When I see both, I know how the calculations of correlations work and I can put two and two together and get four. Statistics are simply working with numbers, not magic.

No, it would be moving closer to national average. I have two variables, pct Southern Baptist and age 65-84 death rate. The correlation between them is smaller than when the age variable is 20-64.

The real reason is that the Southern Baptist have started selling their own health insurance, they got it allowed in Obama Care, and promoted prayer for care in the churches at the same time. The results: More profit from their health insurance and our highest death rates.

First, I know of no measure of teeth by age. My 13 month younger brother had false teeth before he started college and I am 82 and still have half of mine.

My guess on the change in 85+ r is that the Southern Baptist kill too many off early to show up in 85+.

In general Southern Baptist education does not include training in science, that is where correlation is presented. I think their leaders are the leaders of the anti-science movement. The following are generally treated as non-thinkers.

To be more precise, this is a Southern Baptist effect. They have been indoctrinated to believe that prayer cures and they can get cheap church based health insurance. If you would like some Southern Baptist state levels measures, email me at

And much of the changes in our death rates is obscured when rates are calculated for total population. What we have is generally declining death rates among the age 0-19, increasing death rates among age 20-64, declining death rates among age 65+. I guess I should re-post graphs on that.

Just a few words. The Democratic voting states have the lowest rate for all years but the first when they have the highest. That is because COVID hit the east and west coast first, especially New York and California because they have the major areas relieving people coming from other countries. The difference during the later years are due to state differences in COVID vaccination rates.

As a side note, we have a substantial under count of COVID deaths. I am trying to estimate under counted numbers and if I succeed, I will post a corrected graph.

Here is a quick little post late in the day. It shows the COVID death rates for total populations of states grouped by party, blue for Democratic, red for Republicans and gray for mixed. ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ’กโ˜ ๏ธ #Sociology #Population #Think #News

OK, I put a data set with income and two measures of party. Income was consistently the strongest, about eight times as strong as party. The party's major effect was the range of income by party group was different, Democratic states had the highest income, mixed party next, Reps last.

I have been running with the stat program's default colors, I will see if I can change them. I have been retired for 18 years and my money doesn't go as far as it used to and I have to buy the software I use.

The most interesting thing I find in the graph is the differences in changes from 2020, the first year of COVID which was without immunization, and 2021 the first year with vaccine. I guess I should look at that and provide some numbers by party. Let me know if you would like to that.

Here is a graph I intended to post about three months ago. It shows the death rates for ages 20-64 of all races by party by year from 2018 through 2023. ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ’กโ˜ ๏ธ #Sociology #Population #Think #News

Racist claim to be better because of their skin color because when their behavior and intelligence is compared with others they always look bad. Why? Because they are dumb judging people based what they are is too complex for their little brain.

I just zoomed in on the picture, the top of the vertical shaft is shaped to fit the curve of the top rod so it has to be accessed by a separate screw. The only way I can think that it will be done is the screw is at to bottom, or top if you will, of the hole in the bottom of that vertical shaft

14.10.2025 12:13 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I really can't tell from the picture, but does it look like to top of the poles are curved to fit the top bar? If so, there has to a smaller screw reachable through the hole for the screw that holds the bottom. If so, it might use a hex L wrench.

14.10.2025 09:25 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

One more idea, can there be a small screw with it's head in the bottom of the hole that the other screw came out of?

If you take long pliers and squeeze the rolls of tape to make the holes long and narrow, will they come off and go on?

One problem is the life expectancy is so often used, it is often abused. For example Hawaii is the only state with a life expectancy longer than what the CIA reports as the United States Life Expectancy. Working with data is not always easy.
