There IS some overlap of functionality sometimes, but that's the general terminology usage I try to stick to... emphasis on try, lol

Here's examples: Super Mario RPG for Nintendo Switch is a remake of the SNES version.

The Super Mario All-Stars SNES pack was a Remaster of classic NES Mario games, with SNES-level graphics

Super Mario 3D All Stars is a port of Super Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy.

Remaster - Original game is made compatible with modern hardware, sometimes upscaling skins or wire frames, but preserving everything as originally made.

It really depends on which games need which treatment to get an newer version out there.

Not sure if this is universal, so imma just tap in my definitions:

Port - directly emulates the original programmed game in modern hardware. Sometimes you can rewind or save state it.

Remake - game is recreated from the ground up, sometimes adds extras to make buying it again worth it
