I miss the old hellsite. Once upon a time, people actually talked about #theatre there. Here it’s all Shakespeare quotes and “Your twenty favorite” whatever and no actual discussion. Does being nice mean we can’t mentally engage?

#CircusQuixote at Looking Glass Theatre was fantastic. Amazing circus work that didn’t overwhelm the poignance of the show. I highly recommend it! #theatresky

Today I’m at Playwrights Horizons for Jordan Harrison’s The Antiquities. I love speculative theatre that gets us thinking about our present. I’m excited for this!

I’m so glad I was able to see Sanaz Toossi’s English @roundaboutnyc.bsky.social before it closes. It’s a beautiful character study that also confronts the problems caused by the englishization (I declare it a word) of the world. Even more lovely in the acting than in the reading.

I decided three shows last weekend was too many, so this weekend I just went to part of a tech rehearsal last night, and tonight I’m at The Footlight Players for Gutenberg! The Musical! Looking forward to some silly fun.

I love that too. The script strongly suggests that theatres do that. It’s like Heidi Schreck knew we’d need it.

Last night’s theatre - Alice by Heart at Coastal Carolina University. Today’s theatre - The Nerd at Flowertown Playhouse. Thursday night I was at The Shark is Broken in Charleston. Charleston to Conway to Summerville, all for theatre. It’s been quite a weekend. All worth it!

Feels like we are living in the first third of a Star Wars opening crawl

I’m teaching it this semester. Wish I could see it.

You know how sometimes people make mistakes or are late with something because someone else made a mistake or was late with something and it snowballs? I think that’s just life now.

I’m very sad that @suffsmusical.bsky.social is closing, because more people should see it. And perhaps this has already been said, but that closing date (1/5) feels like a statement to me.

In the 90s there was a group called The Surveillance Camera Players who did theatre in front of surveillance cameras. Now the problem would be finding the ones that actually function.

I don’t think I’ve ever been as exhausted at the end of a semester. I’ve barely slept the last two nights b/c I’ve been grading all the late papers I received. I’ve always been very generous, but that may have to change. Students are pathologically afraid of #writing.

The final project for my American Theatre History class is to propose a play based on an important American document and the number of students who want to time travel a founding father to the present so they can see what they’ve caused is just 👩‍🍳😘 #theatrehistory

I literally gave my #theatrehistory students the essay questions in advance and yet most of them bombed them. Studying just isn’t a thing anymore.

Holy cow, Blue Man Group at Astor Place is closing after 33 years. I’ve been planning to publish something on them my entire academic career. (I had a chapter in my diss.) If that’s not the perfect example of the difficulties of writing while teaching, I don’t know what is.

The latest update of Word doesn’t make you click the stupid arrow to post a comment anymore and I am so so thankful. Don’t interrupt my grading flow!
