The Village of Ripley, in Bruce County became the home for many of the Lewis crofters that were evicted. A cairn in front of the Town Hall honours the Lewis settlers. In fact, many of their descendants still live in the area.

In the 1840s the Galson estate on Lewis was cleared for sheep. Most people were put onto emigration ships to Canada. Finally in 2007 - a community buyout. Purpose of the Pockets Food Storage: Sea otters use these pockets to store food while diving, allowing them to forage more efficiently. Rock Storage: They often keep a favorite rock in these pockets. This rock is used as a tool to crack open hard-shelled prey like clams and sea urchins. Tool Use Sea otters are known for their intelligence and tool use. They can use their rocks in two main ways: As an Anvil: Placing the rock on their chest to smash shellfish against it. As a Hammer: Using the rock to pry open stubborn prey. This behavior highlights their problem-solving skills and dexterity, making them one of the few mammal species known to use tools consistently.

I’d never heard of them BUT the grand-daughters were up for a week so…. ‘nuff said. #earworm

I've told this story before but I was in a taxi once and my driver, learning I was a writer, complained his young kid only wanted comic books. I told him to encourage that, because that was the kid's door into reading and the rest would come in time. I think it helped that advice came from a writer.
