Turning industrial waste into world-first green chemistry A major research centre that is set to position the UK as a global leader in clean technology is being launched by the universities of Newcastle, Sheffield and Nottingham.

Researchers at @sciencesncl.bsky.social are co-leading a new research centre to help replace fossil petrochemical use. The group will work with the chemical industry to produce cleaner versions of chemicals we depend on in modern life.

Hello again! This week, I collected water samples from the Lort Dene, a hidden river from Leazes Park to the River Tyne. I'm studying its bacterial diversity, which has never been done before. I also sampled the Victorian Tunnels' iron-rich water. Stay tuned for interesting results! #WeAreNCL
