Beware Trump’s Talk of Coming “Emergencies” Far-right rhetoric is suffused with dark talk of impending calamities. It’s a favorite trope of autocrats who are, themselves, the calamity.

The road to authoritarianism is paved with this trope—the dire pending calamity that only the strongman has seen, and which only he can solve.

I think it's worth repeating plainly that a federal judge halted Musk's federal funding freeze nearly two weeks ago but funds are still very much being frozen in violation of the court order.

When it seems like the monsters are winning,
give a thought to the bigger picture.

Nature is coming for them.
Time is eating them.
History will give them what they've earned.

Turning away from empathy and curiosity makes the world into a grim, thin place populated by strangers, objects, and adversaries.
It's akin to demanding the biggest seat in the theater, even though it doesn't face the stage. It's trading a window for a mirror. It's a theft from others and the self.

Musk/DOGE's dismissal of public servants as "low productivity" reveals ignorance about the vital work they do for love of country, not profit.
