500 years ago today, Richard de la Pole, called the 'White Rose', was killed at the Battle of Pavia in the Duchy of Milan. He was the last member of the House of York to actively and openly seek the crown of England as 'Richard IV', and Henry VIII was glad to hear of his death.

The Temple of the Muses, Dryburgh, dedicated to James Thomson of Ednam, near Kelso, erected on the order of the 11th Earl of Buchan. Buchan famously corresponded with President George Washington about the latter's praise of Scottish farming techniques. All interconnected.
