Here, when we act, in coordination and with purpose, we are borderline omnipotent. Things may take time, but we rarely if ever fail due to factors that are not self-inflicted or artificial.

We are a species of hairless apes with abnormally large heads. In the last hundred years, we have successfully put many of our own on the Moon, sent objects barreling into interstellar space, and turned literal sand into objects close to being smarter than ourselves.

To be clear, it's being built with donations, not American taxpayer money. Doesn't make it much better - it's just legalized bribery - but this isn't "the President is building himself a ballroom instead of paying federal workers".

Russia exists in a superposition of being the great saviour of the West from the scourge of "liberal degeneracy" that has supposedly infected it, and of simultaneously being the great crusader against western imperialism.

It's just strangely funny but also depressing to me when liberal-conservative parties preaching market forces and laissez-faire become communists specifically when it comes to drug policy and absolutely nothing else.

The Swedish government's obsession with marijuana is beyond deranged. Why a supposedly pro-market government thinks it's possible to eliminate market demand for something as wildly popular as cannabis is beyond me.

If the people are consistently choosing idiotic, morally bankrupt populist extremists over the establishment, no matter what campaigning tactics the establishment uses, maybe the problem is with the establishment?

I honestly think the only reason people are treating this like it's actually insane is because they blame him for the Iraq War, forgetting that it was a bunch of idiots in the Pentagon who screwed it up what could be the liberation of the Iraqi people with the de-Ba'athification program.

I am honestly not even particularly against having Blair running Gaza. He was... decent, as a British prime minister (though I dislike his authoritarian streak), and probably couldn't be any worse than whoever Netanyahu would put in charge, or the PLO/Fatah (who Palestinians rightfully hate).

It's also just generally their "brand". Anti-corruption is the bread and butter of the pre-war non-systemic Russian opposition, and it's historically been very successful. With the war providing many opportunities for corruption, why drop a winning strategy to promote a less appealing message?

If you want to have the full effect of any anti-war movement, you can't solely appeal to pacifists, but you also have to make a solid appeal to those "on the fence", to get them in your camp.

For many, "Paved roads instead of missiles!" is a better slogan than "Stop killing children!"

There seems to be this common narrative in pro-UA spaces that "Navalnyites just talk about how they would be more efficient and less corrupt with the invasion!" - this is not true. When they talk about corruption in the Russian war economy, they're saying the war is being waged to enrich oligarchs.

Yeltsin was a massive piece of shit who engaged in a genocide in Chechnya, treated constitutional rule of law as toilet paper, destroyed liberalism in Russia for a generation, and paved the way for Putin. He should not be praised, by anyone, _ever_.

It's probably notable, when discussing the 1993 Russian constitutional crisis, that the parliamentarian forces were not a bunch of Stalinists - though some of their supporters were - but were literally old Gorbachevites. They weren't particularly anti-democratic, they were anti-Yeltsin.

I recognize the idea of _a Palestine_, but there is no current Palestinian government which fulfills the basic requirements of state legitimacy. There is a Palestinian nation, but no real Palestinian state, and so one must be established in the near future.

If you have to seriously ask whether or not something is racist, it's racist.

No, being genuinely racist towards Russians, Serbs, Turks, etc, is not beneficial to Ukraine or Europe and is not in fact justified to any degree. Please stop your slacktivism and start actually helping the cause rather than just pretending to. Run a pro-Ukrainian fundraiser, volunteer, _anything_.

Liberalism lost because we don't have real liberals left. Very few people who self-identify as liberal believe in liberal values beyond a vague sense of being pro-market and _maybe_ being pro-freedom-domestically.

We need actual liberals back. Liberals who are willing to take a goddamn stand.

Likewise, once you start restricting the power of the masses - through elitist party structures, endless grand coalitions, slow election cycles, etc, the ability for the people to govern well atrophies. In democracies, this leads to populism once the established elite fails to govern the nation.

If you let the masses govern, they _will_ learn to govern well. This has been proven time and time again - governance _improved_ long-term after the expansion of democracy. Young democracies, whose people have never held direct power, are the ones most susceptible to rampant populism.
