Sucks that Lowe and KK always get lumped into these, too. Frank had to do some real work to rebuild that disaster of a rotation in 2008 and Vazquez, Lowe, Kawakami with THK and Jair made them an absolute force. Plus Lowe still had two more serviceable years.

Kawakami was… fine? He just got screwed.

Think Upton and Profar lap the rest of the field here, which is rough bc both seemed fair and logical at the time. I think that’s what makes judging these deals with hindsight more difficult than “yeah he sucked” or “this dumbass pissed hot twice”.

With the WWE/TNA relationship there is minimal benefit to TNA bc the balance of talent leans far away from them. NJPW still gets AEW main eventers to move the needle; TNA is getting NXT scraps. But ultimately talent leaving is their own fault for not being able to pay or make them stars.

How is it AEW’s fault that New Japan can’t retain talent and/or build up talent to replace them? Like Rocky said, it’s either AEW or the fed, they’re leaving either way. For most AEW just presents a higher ceiling historically and is a natural jump bc there is an existing relationship in place.
