Maybe it's because I am in Canada, but the big 4 and indie patterns are comparable in price ($15-$25 per pattern).

I'm sorry your experience hasn't been great. In my experience, many indie patterns are easier to understand and follow compared to the big 4. I'm experienced but I still need visual AND written instructions, often very detailed ones which I never got from the big 4 when I started sewing 20 yrs ago.

I think newbies will be able to navigate this better now than 10 years ago when there was no indie ecosystem, very few video tutorials, etc. learning any craft is easier now because of online resources. I can appreciate the big 4, but they're not very inclusive in terms of accessibility & sizing.

Also want to add, I wish mainstream media explained duty to consult in this way because it is so clear and so accurate, and as Pam explains in this episode, so many Canadians are uninformed about how this process is supposed to work.

Great episode. Love Pam's analogies that compare gov't duty to consult Indigenous peoples with sexual consent & consent for surgery: no means no. But when it comes to Indigenous rights, "We'll have a conversation with you, you don't get to say no. That is not the law of consent in any context."

I think I now need to avoid all post-election analysis because it might make me scream/cry. Luckily for me it's so easy to do that in Canada rn: you have to work hard to find relevant, trustworthy news. No wonder folks don't care anymore.

It is tragic to see Niki Ashton lose. She knew that it was a real possibility after the NDP signed their deal with the Liberals and here we are.

As much as I was critical of Jagmeet Singh and how I felt like he always held back from his potential, I'm sad to see him resign. 💔

I'm mad at people who voted liberal in NDP/Green ridings without knowing wtf they were voting for or even really understanding how our electoral system works. You know, the ones who got caught up with this wave of nationalism and had Carney and Canada Strong signs on their lawns.

This is how conservatives win votes. Disinformation and fear mongering. It's not a new tactic, but one they ramped up this time and it got results.

Disinformation was rampant, and most mainstream media ignored it or brushed it aside. That is a part of the problem.

That was a boring election with depressing results. To see the NDP lose so many seats, and good people like Mike Morrice trailing behind a fly-in conservative candidate should be a BIG fucking warning sign to the left. The cons relied on disinformation to get here - think about that.

The NDP lost its appeal to the left, and lost to vote splitting, but mostly I think the left and centre need a come-to-jesus moment about how to combat the insidious, overwhelming right wing disinfo juggernaut
