So Canada wants us to recognize that Zionists have ancestral ties to Palestine after centuries but refuse to recognize many Indigenous people here as having ancestral ties to our territories because of their blood quantum requirements under a genocidal Indian Status system? Makes sense.

I'm outside of Canada rn and seeing news in my Instagram feed again is wild. I don't know how I'll go back.

Dang! JoAnn's always sounded like a dream place. Never got to visit one before they closed. But yes very good points about labour etc. I know when I buy indie, all the profits are going to the creator.

Maybe it's because I am in Canada, but the big 4 and indie patterns are comparable in price ($15-$25 per pattern).

I'm sorry your experience hasn't been great. In my experience, many indie patterns are easier to understand and follow compared to the big 4. I'm experienced but I still need visual AND written instructions, often very detailed ones which I never got from the big 4 when I started sewing 20 yrs ago.

Love that my "stand up for human Rights" Palestine lawn sign made it into the newsletter of one of my fave fabric shops, featuring an outfit I made with one of their fabrics. ✌🏽

I think newbies will be able to navigate this better now than 10 years ago when there was no indie ecosystem, very few video tutorials, etc. learning any craft is easier now because of online resources. I can appreciate the big 4, but they're not very inclusive in terms of accessibility & sizing.

Also want to add, I wish mainstream media explained duty to consult in this way because it is so clear and so accurate, and as Pam explains in this episode, so many Canadians are uninformed about how this process is supposed to work.

06.06.2025 16:32 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Great episode. Love Pam's analogies that compare gov't duty to consult Indigenous peoples with sexual consent & consent for surgery: no means no. But when it comes to Indigenous rights, "We'll have a conversation with you, you don't get to say no. That is not the law of consent in any context."

Listening to Canadian news is basically just everything is on fire also we need to fast track approvals on resource extraction.

I got mine after my first daughter was born, did some testing during pregnancy and turns out I was not immune. Thank goodness for science.

Today is the five year anniversary of George Floyd’s murder.

I have a deep grief about how little we have advanced since that moment toward abolishing police violence and the police state, and how far backward we have slid in stopping all the causes and manifestations of it.

May he rest in peace.

Social media breaks are so great. But sometimes I do want to share a bit of my life with you all, so here is a crochet project I'm finishing up this long weekend. These are the first granny squares I've ever made and I'm super proud of finally figuring out this crochet thing as a leftie. #crochetsky

Hey folks, I'm writing a freelance story (for @futureofgood.bsky.social ) about barriers to employment for persons with disabilities in Canada. Are you a person with a disability who is looking for work? Please reach out if you'd like to share your experience with me for this story. Thanks!

I think I now need to avoid all post-election analysis because it might make me scream/cry. Luckily for me it's so easy to do that in Canada rn: you have to work hard to find relevant, trustworthy news. No wonder folks don't care anymore.

It is tragic to see Niki Ashton lose. She knew that it was a real possibility after the NDP signed their deal with the Liberals and here we are.

As much as I was critical of Jagmeet Singh and how I felt like he always held back from his potential, I'm sad to see him resign. πŸ’”

I'm mad at people who voted liberal in NDP/Green ridings without knowing wtf they were voting for or even really understanding how our electoral system works. You know, the ones who got caught up with this wave of nationalism and had Carney and Canada Strong signs on their lawns.

This is how conservatives win votes. Disinformation and fear mongering. It's not a new tactic, but one they ramped up this time and it got results.

29.04.2025 11:22 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Disinformation was rampant, and most mainstream media ignored it or brushed it aside. That is a part of the problem.

29.04.2025 11:20 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

That was a boring election with depressing results. To see the NDP lose so many seats, and good people like Mike Morrice trailing behind a fly-in conservative candidate should be a BIG fucking warning sign to the left. The cons relied on disinformation to get here - think about that.

29.04.2025 11:19 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The NDP lost its appeal to the left, and lost to vote splitting, but mostly I think the left and centre need a come-to-jesus moment about how to combat the insidious, overwhelming right wing disinfo juggernaut

A man driving into a crowd, killing 9, during a cultural festival isn't terrorism because we expect that sometimes, drivers make oopsieses and murder people with their cars.

Came home to this flyer in my mailbox. Not surprised by the scare tactics, the misinformation, the attempt to fool voters. unreal but here we are, and there are so many reasons why we are here right now.
