How Ottawa's restrictions on government scientists affect Canadians | CBC News There have been numerous complaints from both scientists and the media that federal scientists are being restricted from publicly talking about their research. So what are the issues and what is at st...

There's just nothing new under the sunโ€“muzzling scientists, a well-travelled path for climate-change-denying Conservatives. The Harper Conservative government in Canada did the same starting in 2006 and continuing until it was defeated in 2015 www.cbc.ca/news/science...

Nope. My holiday in Ireland starts in Mayo county, but there was a choice to be made as to the flight, a stopover in Newark or London. That Newark stop meant U.S. customs and fees to a U.S. city...I chose Londonโ€”easy peasy ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Every so often I think about that statistic that 6% of American men think they could take on a grizzly bear unarmed and win and suddenly the whole situation we're in makes a lot more sense

The 3 main sources of paper are: Brazil, Canada, and China.

New tariffs:

Brazil - 10%
Canada - 25%
China - 54%

Your printed books may reflect these increases within a week or so. You should check to see how that will alter your printed books prices.

I saw this comment (not mine) from a writer on an agent's Query Tracker. What a journey, but I particularly noticed the nudges and they lead me to ask: Who else nudges after not getting a reply from the agent or am I alone in just accepting that it's another DNR?

Too bad they're writing to a guy who has already said he (expletive deleted) doesn't care and regardless isn't known for ever admitting to being wrong or taking responsibility.

Four for five pages for the editor (big Five), and two of the agents, and a full for the last one. The only decline loved the pitch and loved loved the title just didn't know how they'd market it... I'll have the pages out tomorrow

Pitching four agents and one editor at a writers' conference in the morning. Practised the pitches on some writers at tonight's pub night. I'm ready! ๐Ÿคž

The growing stacks of US grown celery at my grocer these past few weeks, weren't going to sell. Yesterday I saw it replaced with product from Mexico (red, green, and yellow peppers, too). ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ is adjusting and moving on, new markets and less reliance on an unreliable trading partner

U.S. border authorities are making my decision to choose Heathrow, UK over Newark US as the stopover for my trip to Ireland in April look genius. Heaven knows, I might have some comments on my social media that are unfavourable, maybe even mean, to a thin-skinned individual who lives in the States.

If/when this statement ends up in front of the judge this afternoon, will there be any push back from the judiciary or will the DOJ be successful in shrugging it off? Without someone being held accountable, why would the administration stop? What's their incentive?

I'm not sure you need to feel guilty about this. I once read something from @lainitaylor.bsky.social (YA fantasy writer of the Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Muse of Nightmares series). She wrote about writers having different methods, some the "get that first draft down" and some "perfectionists"
