We identified oogonia and primordial follicles using section H&E staining paired with confocal DAPI/WGA staining!

Lumenogenesis coincides with circular expression of gastrulation marker Brachyury prior to AP-axis formation suggesting a novel role of Brachyury preceding #gastrulation

We suggest alternative anterior-posterior #patterning regulation in chameleons with anterior marker genes Cerberus expressed in the middle (arrows) and on the posterior (asterisks) of the embryo but not on the anterior side, while Lefty is completely absent.

A purse string mechanism through supra-cellular actin cables closes the epiblast lumen dorsally suggesting a novel form of epiblast lumenogenesis and amniotic cavity formation.

The #squamate chameleon diverges from what has been reported for #chicken pre-gastrulation morphogenesis
Starting off as flat plate the chameleon hollows and adopts a dome-like shape. Hinge points at the side of the dome result in the formation of amniotic folds.
