"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

Unfortunately I did not pay for Premium Grandma w/out Ads and had to settle for free Grandma, and she starts every conversation telling me it would be cool if I got a job with ICE.

A friend of mine, in reference to the pullup bars at airports moment, said this is basically government by typical 12-year-old boys. He's not wrong, but with the caveat of being spoiled, bigoted 12-year-old boys.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. They've pulled out all the stops to try to fend off bankruptcy, including selling IPs like Mythic, but it still might not be enough. Just got too far out over their skis, in addition to COVID and now tariffs.

Figured you'd be aware of this. I posted that BGW link to the site in case you weren't. Honestly surprised it took this long.

Having $800M in your investment account vs $400M doesn't change your life at all, but having a labor market where your underlings are desperate to cling to jobs vs one where they can walk across the street and get a better offer makes a huge difference in the day to day reality of the very wealthy

Dominik Szoboszlai has completed 90 mins in all 21 of Liverpool's league/Champions League games this season.

He's the first #LFC midfielder to do that in the first 21 since Steven Gerrard in 2012-13, and first when Liverpool were actually in the European Cup since Sammy Lee in 1983-84.

Some player

This page transitions from the subterranean tension of Chapter Three: Scylla to a polished corporate office, revealing the internal power dynamics within Metascience that run parallel to the events unfolding in the tunnels. DeBarett, a sharply dressed mid-management employee stands at Ventrik's desk with an air of confident entitlement. He leans forward as he tells Ventrik, β€œYou can’t do this,” expecting the weight of the company hierarchy to settle the matter. Across from him, Ventrik sits calmly at a laptop, fingers steepled, responding with steady, almost amused composure. The office setting - grandfather clock, carved woodwork, and heavy furnitureβ€”contrasts with the mud and chaos of the sewer environment from previous pages of the webcomic. Their exchange focuses on Metascience’s contracts: DeBarett cites the board’s expectations, while Ventrik points out that there is a single contract left (after the Tribunal project was stolen), and that redirecting every resource toward it ignores the broader potential of his research. Ventrik explains that isolating the biological factor behind certain individuals’ extraordinary power could reshape future contracts entirely. DeBarett pushes back, reminding him why such work was outlawed and warning that "when information escapes, the company loses control, and when Metascience loses control, outside forces on the Circuit or beyond inevitably exploit the weakness". The page ends with their ideological divide laid bare: Ventrik’s vision versus DeBarett’s corporate caution and self-importance, highlighting how ambition and internal politics shape the world of Dystopia as much as anything happening underground.

Movie you've watched more than six time with a gif. Hard mode: no Star (Wars nor Trek), LOTR, or Marvel, Disney Animated or Pixar.
(There are actual several I could use here, but this is probably the best of them.)

Utterly brilliant thread about the economic realities of most of America and the fantasy that most keep chasing because the marketing and the media and the consumerist psychosis keep telling you that you should.

JFC, right! Ibou's error had nothing to do with the hour+ that preceded it where we largely looked inept against a relegation candidate outside of two gift goals. If all of the students are failing (formerly excellent students, mind you), the problem is not with the students.

We set up to not lose (as losers tend to do), played like shit, got gifted 2-0, and still managed to throw it away against relegation fodder.

We seem like we're trying to do even more of the Man City thing than latter-day Klopp, except that we're neither moving nor passing fast enough or frequently enough. It's like watching someone play speed chess: brief movement while every other (red) piece stands in place.

"But what about the republicans," you might ask. To which I have this to say:

"I am satisfied...that the problem of this war consists in the awful fact that the present class of men who rule the South must be killed outright rather than in the conquest of territory."

The plagiarism machine debases us all. I've always been happy to hear when someone has been inspired or enriched by something I've written. I'm even happy when someone tries to "copy" my way of writing. But I do not consent to having my work ripped off by ghoulish oligarchs and techbro losers.

Seriously. And it's not just coming from the usual suspects (Carragher!) Even voices I trust on here are talking about this match like it's just this side of a rout. xG is .73 to .19 in our favor and the play reflects that.

One of the central tenets of their ideology is that government is bad. When you elect a bunch of people like that to run the government, you can't be surprised when it doesn't work very well. It's the same people shouting: "Keep the government's hands off my Medicare!"

Paramount is in talks to buy Warner Bros. to create a mega-studio, using funds from Trump confidante Larry Ellison and the Saudi government, raising new concerns about the influence of PBS.

We just rewatched that a couple days ago, too. It's one of the films I've been collecting on physical media so I don't have to rely on services to see. Yeah, it's another of those fairly prophetic stories of recent years.

I've felt that way for the last 10 years, never mind the last 5. I'm probably a real exception in that I like to have multiple plays to really feel like I understand something well enough to write something meaningful about it, though.

For me, on Indy it's only Raiders and Blade Runner has to be the director's cut (no voiceover, ends in the elevator) but, yeah, Ford is a good call. Him or Toshiro Mifune.
