Honestly, the only point of this thread is transparency. I have friends who constantly tell me I'm doing well as a working writer. (I have a full time writing job. It's for a video game.) I don't feel like I'm doing well. I don't feel like a success. That's it. That's all I have to say.

At that same time, I was never staffed as a TV critic. I've NEVER been staffed as a TV critic. Not even for The A.V. Club, to many people's surprise. I'm sure a good portion of that is my own fault, but it's still kinda upsetting to think about. I've been forever freelance and not really proudly.

I genuinely believe there was a time I was one of the best TV critics around. I hate saying it out loud because I don't want to sound like an asshole, but I do think it's true.

I've been thinking about lot lately about my career as a writer (in multiple arenas)... I've especially been thinking about my (essentially sunsetting) time as a TV critic.
