i actually think it has the potential to be genuinely helpful to people in crisis, but not if we just accept that it’s bad for it to be able to talk to them about it at all.

sorry to rant in your replies, i just find the response to this very frustrating.

and like yes, obviously, it is a problem that it would encourage them to commit suicide and walk them through a plan. but honestly even if it just said “i cannot talk about this” and linked a hotline, i think that would be insufficient.

it seems like. blindingly obvious why people who are suicidal would turn to something like chatgpt in search of support. if the response to that is “so we should ban it,” that doesn’t actually make those people less suicidal, it just takes away the thing they were seeking support from.

I haven't changed it much from the defaults. My display isn't very big anyway, so it's not like I have to reach very far to press things on the left.

Personally, I don’t feel like that’s a very useful way to approach topics, but even if I did, “The public domain is good” is more core to my ideology than “AI is bad,” so refusing to allow my works to be used would still be the greater betrayal of my own belief system. 🤷

Personally, I think that data centers should be taxed for their water usage until training new models constantly is so unprofitable as to not be worth it. 🤷

But that’s not really the same argument as “every use of AI hurts the planet.”

I have literally run LLMs locally on my own computer. No internet connection. No data center. I know it’s possible, because I have done it.

I mean, I guess, in the sense that using literally any power hurts the environment. But there are plenty of uses of GenAI that use less power than something like running a modern video game.

I'm not talking about YouTube's stupid integration stuff, I was talking about allowing third parties to use content to train AI. I've literally released material I've made into the public domain before. I have things I've made that I am okay with being used by anyone, for anything.

hmm i wish there were a way to switch this on a case-by-case basis, because there’s some stuff on my channel that i genuinely would not mind being used but like. i’ve also got videos with music and voice acting from other people that absolutely did not (and probably would not) consent to that
