Probably easiest to start with: Centrist Dad, then head to Car Nerd (or Bore, if he's left to it) and finally Posts about my industry (although I'd rather keep my specific profession out of things) Mainly skeets/ bleets about politics and cars though.

Heโll find that photo helpful in his personal injury claim. That door hinge should never have been engineered to clamp closed like that.

One thing which stands out is how looking at them in context, if these people had been seen in class or university, youโd have thought of them as the most pathetic weenies.
This, I feel, explains a lot.
Phew. I can keep making Wayne's World references... They're not that out of date it seems.
(Yes, I've listened to Derek and Clive LPs and tapes... I'm THAT old)
Very, very little meat on it from what I could see. Like whitebait, but if youโre not up to a meal that big.

I think that's an exquisite metaphor.
06.10.2025 12:56 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0But why would people vote Reform when UKIP and Brexit did the UK so much damage?
Exhibit A:
Thanks. It's for the whole "our house is from about 1830" vibe. I've been asked if "as an architect" did I want to do something radical to it, with my reply being no. I may not have a huge amount of self- esteem, but I also don't have a tiny delicate ego which I need to manage by showing off.

โAnthony, why were you late for the meeting?โ
โWell, this thing happened.โ
I voted for our local Green councillors.
Thatโs as far as Iโll go with that Party, though. Thereโs no cohesion above the level of local politics.
Me when I saw the recent suggestions that left wing populism was the solution to right wing populism:

โHi, weโre a progressive left-wing Party. Hereโs our first major announcement, weโre banning something!โ
โEr, mate, have you ever heard of the horseshoe theory of politics?โ
The more I think about this, the more crazed it is.
You ban landlords, fine. What about the housing stock. Is it compulsory purchased? Who defines the price? How do you ensure what itโs used for afterwards?
Banning things is easy, creating is hard.
Fringe madness.
They may as well make it a manifesto promise to ensure the moon is made from chocolate rather than cheese.
Still, at least a left wing party is now making some claims as crazed as what the right wing are doing.
Yeah, Europeans have smashed that. Iโm trying, plus with my kids, even the youngest one (7) is doing Duolingo. And this is for sincere non-overheard in Waitrose reasons ๐

p.s. if anyone is offended by my reference to 90s homophobia, I will delete this reply.
Itโs almost impossible to explain this now, because things have changed so much, but someone with less genius would not have been able to capture that in her character.

You are 100% correct.
This is the brilliance of Patricia Routledge. You could tell that (and this show was in the 90s, which was completely different when it came to this) Hyacinth knew 100% what was going on with the one member of the family you never see, which was Sheridan, and didnโt care.

I didnโt know the significance of the German prefix. Dankeschรถn (Iโm in an online gaming group with German players, so thatโs about all the German I actually know).

Iโd like to go for picnics in that universe, kind of like that thing in The Man in the High Castle.
Also, her having that title has now ruined this for me (itโs a Ur Quattro):
Robโs stolen this photo from Paul Cowlandโs phone.
Itโs another of his meet and greets.

Absolutely loved it. Iโve the copy somewhere to this day and like Dave Lister, Iโd also happily live in a simulation where my hometown was Bedford Falls.

The books actually put me off reading fiction and I only recovered when my older brother got me (as a form of punishment, as he knew Iโd have to read it) the Red Dwarf omnibus book a following Christmas

Oh, playing that game are we?
Well, I tried Diggers, Truckers and Wings when I was a kid and thought them shit, so havenโt read Pratchett and donโt want to.
I will now be cancelled.
Really enjoyed this, but obviously pined for Alex all the way through.
I put Hyacinth down as a blue to orange Lib Dem, because Iโm sure sheโd mention that Ed Davey cares for someone and that no-one looks after her dear Daddy like she does ๐
Jill Murphy also gave us the excellent Large Family books as well, from what I can recall.
We were lucky to have her.
Excellent thread.
And no, Iโve never seen The Goonies.
Agree. Pretty Woman was very much of its time, whereas the WHMS is a classic.
True fact:
I went out incredibly early one Sunday morning to ensure I could buy the DVD from HMV as I had a date planned with my now-wife later that day.
One of my classier moves I reckon.
