As somebody who grew up in a coal-mining town on the UK, and whose dad worked in a factory and whose mom was an officer cleaner, don't fall for it. They use culture wars, of "woke" (which is really empathy, though they never say that) and of "us vs them"

Research grants may certainly be less easy to get in the near future, which in turn may limit stipend funding for students. My advice is to have *at least* one option that guarantees student funding for five years as TA (many programs do not), and also consider programs north of the border.
