My guess is that it might be effective to wait a few weeks for gas prices to spike. That might make the audience more receptive.

This reminds me of how World War I started: Serbia attacks Austria’s leaders, Austria retaliates against Serbia, so Russia attacks Austria, ….

Just checked the take out menu for our local diner, $9 for a hand-spun milkshake.

After more research, I found my nearest Baskin Robbins charges $13 for a large milkshake.

Wow. Here in Silicon Valley, CA, my closest McDonald’s sells a large Shamrock Shake for $5.19.

Fair point! It also still leaves the possibility of "some 3rd factor causes both mental illness and cannabis use". For example, perhaps stress or some other factor leads first to cannabis use and then later to mental illness.

Why doesn't it?

If you are suggesting that "mental illness causes cannabis use", wouldn't "exclude people with pre-existing mental illness" address it?

Now, I have no idea how easy it is to actually exclude people with pre-existing illness. But if it can be done, it would seem to address this.

Unfortunately, I seem to anger her when I try to express a difference of opinion where I think she is mistaken or overreaching or overgeneralizing and I end up getting blocked.

Looks like Ms. Grattan has blocked me. Just like she did on Twitter 4 years ago.

Which is too bad, because I agree with about 95% of what Ms. Grattan writes. I think she does a good job explaining FCC regulations and why they don't apply to other media, particularly cable-only channels.

Yes, you’re right, 1A limits FCC rules.

My point was about the idea that β€œthe market” should decide what content is acceptable on VHF TV.

SCOTUS allows more regulation of VHF than other media because there isn’t the same free market in VHF TV that there is in other media.

Red Lion Broadcasting Co., Inc. v. FCC, 395 U.S. 367 (1969) Red Lion Broadcasting Co., Inc. v. FCC: It is permissible under the First Amendment to require media outlets to make broadcast time available for responses to personal attacks.

My understanding is SCOTUS allows far more content regulation on VHF/UHF/AM/FM than they allow on other media. For example, supreme.justia.com/cases/federa...

I think Graham is an embarrassing sycophant who should resign.

But in this particular case it sounds to me like Graham may have misunderstood Walker’s question.

Of course, the β€œmisunderstanding” may be deliberate or due to poor listening skills. But maybe this time it’s just an honest mistake.

My understanding is that the FCC is allowed to regulate speech on VHF/UHF TV and AM/FM radio because they aren’t a free market. There’s a limited number of channels, and the government gets to choose who gets which channel.

How to Use Forecast vs. Forecasted Correctly Both forms are used for the past tense and past participle.

I appreciate the data you provide.

P.S. I know β€œforecasted” is becoming more popular as a past tense of β€œforecast”, but I personally prefer the more traditional β€œforecast” as both future and past tense. Probably because β€œcast” is both the future and past tense.
