Most of what I do involves adding scripts, retexturing to better fit the game's aesthetic, adjusting blend shapes to create a variety of body types, and adjusting bone scales so things line up with other models, which is necessary for animations to look good and have as little clipping as possible!
All the avatars I use are licensed from various furry artists!

Oh and one other thing I need to know is are you running via that new Steam link thing, or are you using Virtual Desktop or some other method to connect to your PC?
Also, in the Settings menu in the SteamVR window, there's an OpenXR section. What does it say for OpenXR runtime there?

I've also fixed the issue of the avatars trying to turn their heads to look at the player while they're busy sucking. Heh!

The system is designed for all sorts of holes! And even things that aren't holes, like the breasts, or a tail! Anything a penetrator needs to go into, or squeeze between, or be gripped by. And it can animate blend shapes as it does so!
Hair cards and fur shaders that use progressively larger hulls are the performant methods which don't look great if you're a micro standing on someone's chest.
And while a strand based system will look fantastic at any scale, it also adds a few million polys to your avatar and requires 8x MSAA.
However fur has its own problems in that fur which is cheap to render, while looking passable at a distance, looks terrible up close — which is a real problem for a game where the player can shrink themselves.
I may eventually subdivide the models to make them a bit smoother, but that may break all blend shapes. Or I might add fur to the meshes, in which case a lower poly base mesh is desirable as the fur will hide that and add a lot to the polycount itself.
It's not really a limit I've set myself. All of the avatars I'm currently using are licensed from creators who originally made them for VRChat, and so they were designed to meet VRChat's performance requirements. And VRChat can have up to 40 people in a world at once!
I don't have enough patrons to be able to afford to hire voice actors yet, but I've added you to my list of potentials!
