Frontiers | Animal ethical mourning: types of loss and grief in relation to non-human animals

Our new research article with philosopher Elisa Aaltola focuses on what we call animal ethical mourning: grief arising as a consequence of moral commitment to animals (companion animals, wildlife, and farmed animals).

I also discuss how the experience of grief and rage can often be quite holistic in the contemporary world, linking such concepts as Weltschmerz and "sociopolitical grief" (Darcy Harris) to the issue. Thanks to Dr. Michael Hogue for the original invitation.

Special themes include the intimate relationship between grief and grievance in ecological grief, and the possibilities of religious communities to support their members in witness, remembrance, mourning, and coping.

My new article discusses various tasks and dynamics in #ecologicalgrief. Sometimes people need more attention to feelings of loss, and sometimes to all that results from the losses and changes. The DPM (Stroebe and Schut) is a famous model in grief research.
