Its so funny that for a childrens anime anipoke shippers can be so extreme, considering theres barely any romance in the actual show lol...
I suppose it has more to do with the fact that ppl grew up watching it, so theres definitely an element of emotional attachment to ships u grew up with

I know am**rshippers have a bad rep but the some of the other shippers were also just as bad

Another added point i want to add on, i despise how some ppl pitted misty and serena against eachother so they could "fight over ash" 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 ewwwww.

Since replaying y version i got nostalgic about kalos
Back then the anime version of serena gave me bad vibes with the way they write some aspects of her but i could never really put it into words lol

While the crazy part of the fanbase does get rightfully criticized at times for waifu-fying serena i feel like sometimes the tropes the anime at the time embodied kinda added fuel to that

This is just me speculating, but i definitely felt like the xy anime appealed to particular demographic of ppl that was different from prev seasons of anpk

Pkmn contests had both genders, may and dawn also had male rivals they had ship tease with (drew, kenny)...but with serena all her rivals are girls because showcases are female only, almost like they were preventing her from developing a rivalry with a guy that might end up being a popular ship...

Another aspect that gave me the ick was the whole pkmn showcase thing, from my understanding only girls were allowed to participate..? Why tho....

Forgot to mention, but i cant believe they wrote the anime version of tierno as a flirty guy crushing on serena 💀

This is also just personal preference but the whole girl who is helplessly in love with guy who remains oblivious til the end trope is one of my most hated in fiction (´_ゝ`) am**rshipping kinda embodies that lol
Also the way ash is dumbed down to a selfinsert...who is that...

The supporting female character role, when given to a girl who's an npc from the games, like misty, iris or the alola girls, is much more fitting

Idk if its related or not but ash's lack of personality in xy also kinda....reminds me of the typical self insert type mc that exists in that particular genre of anime, couple by how serena is written, it gives me the ick

And then xy anpk did the worst thing by how it wrote serena 😃 they really did waifu-fy her lol
I think the fanbase she and those shippers attracted kinda prove my point....yeah....

Even though i grew up watching AG and DP it did bother me how may and dawn, though given their own arcs and goals, were still secondary to Ash's primary role. Despite the fact that they were based on the female PROTAGONIST of the rse and dppt games.

Anipoke has always been hit and miss for me
