Screenshot from Cyberpunk 2077 as it released on the PS4. The graphical fidelity is quite low, but the lighting still makes it pretty. The scene is an underpass, beneath an incomplete highway, tyre tracks lead us towards the horizon and a puddle reflects massive billboards on the side of skyscrapers.

Screenshot from the same place, but this time taken on a modern PC with a pretty decent graphics card. The fidelity is much higher, the lighting is much improved, and we can see far more objects in the scene: scattered litter on the ground, cars and people in the distance, the billboards are easier to see, and all of the textures are just delicious.

I recreated one of my screenshots from my first playthrough so I could really see the difference. I couldn't quite match the exact framing, but it's pretty darn close! That was fun. 💛

Aloy is riding a mechanical freaking UTAHRAPTOR aka the Clawstrider machine type. We're racing through a dark jungle at night, the only light is a gentle background fill from the moonlit fog, and the bright blue glow of the Clawstrider itself.

It's a bit too slow, it's a bit too clunky (especially playing with a controller with rumble enabled, my poor hands,) but we all know the Clawstrider is the coolest mount in the game.

Horizon Zero Dawn. I'd wanted to play this game since it released in 2017, and waited very patiently until my brother gifted me his old PS4 in 2021 to play it.

There wasn't much that was good about 2020, but making a shared Animal Crossing island with my partner was a definite highlight.
