Rivian Updates

Just a couple years ago, EV options were limited. Now a lot of Tesla owners are starting to look around for their next EV and there are now a lot of great EVs to look at. Great to see Rivian is the option many are going for.

Will be curious to see how much this trend continues with R2.

At a California auto auction, 51 vehicles ran through Rivian’s lane, 46 of them were Teslas.

Interesting data point. Definitely suggests many Tesla owners are moving to Rivian, at least anecdotally.

This move has already saved an estimated 20,000 gallons of gasoline and reduced CO₂ emissions by 200 tonnes, the equivalent of carbon absorbed by 300 acres of U.S. forest.

HelloFresh has added 70 Rivian electric vans to its fleet, marking Rivian's first major public fleet customer since opening van sales to the public.

Now nearly a quarter of HelloFresh’s fleet is electric with more than than 250,000 miles driven in the fleet since the partnership with Rivian began.

Did you catch the Rivian R1T and R1S helping transport Blue Origin’s all female crew yesterday? It’s great seeing Rivian front and center at events like these and it's not the first time Blue Origin has used Rivians to transport Blue Origins teams to the New Shepard Rocket.

Rivian is offering discounts for ICE owners of up to $6,000 on new Rivian orders, delivered by March 31, 2025. All you have to do is submit a trade-in request to qualify for the discount, but you don't even have to trade the vehicle in.

This offer applies to leases as well.

In October Rivian released alongside their Q3 production and delivery report that they would be decreasing their 2024 production estimates due to a part shortage. This part was later learned to be a copper winding for the Enduro motor, a motor that goes in the Rivian EDV, R1 Dual and Tri Motor.

Rivian has reported that the copper winding constraint, that affected Rivian's Enduro motors later last year, is no longer affecting production.

Rivian has officially hit 100 Rivian Adventure Network (RAN) fast charging stations across North America. That's 600+ chargers. Where do you hope to see the next RAN station pop up?

I'd love to see every R1 color we have on R2, especially Forest Green and Compass Yellow.

Likely focused on same-day or next-day R1 repairs, its smaller size and lack of a holding lot might limit capacity.

Rivian's newest 'space' in San Francisco will double as a service center—the first of its kind, featuring two floors with a ramp! Should Rivian combine more spaces and service centers, or keep them separate?

Rivian shared in their December newsletter that they're expanding their color palette in 2025! No specific shades revealed yet, but it sounds like we’ll see a wider spectrum of vehicle colors next year. What colors are you hoping they add?

Pretty sure it includes August, but I went ahead and emailed IIHS to confirm. I’ll let you know what they say.

I don’t think it actually matters though they probably just tested an August build and that’s the wording they chose. Gen 2 is all structurally the same.

Rivian has received Top Safety Pick+ AGAIN, this time for both the R1S and R1T, specifically the Gen 2!

Rivian has earned Top Safety Pick+ every year for the R1T and Top Safety Pick for the R1S every year since 2023!

For the next two years, Rivian will be the official sponsor of South by Southwest (SXSW)! Rivian has signed a two year headlining sponsorship agreement with the annual tech and culture festival held in Austin, Texas. SXSW 2025 will run from March 7-15.

Rivian has increased the price of some exterior paint and interior trim options:

Exterior:
Storm Blue: $3000 (was $2500)
Midnight Black: $3000 (was $1750)
Red Canyon: $2500 (was $1750)

Interior (Tri Only):
Slate Sky + Walnut Wood : $3000 (was $2000)
Ocean Coast + Driftwood: $2500 (was $2000)

According to Amazon's updated news article it looks like Rivian has delivered 20,000+ Amazon EDVs so far.

Amazon reached 15,000 Rivian EDVs in July.

Amazon has installed over 24,000 chargers at more than 150 delivery stations across the U.S.
