Finally finished Worm by Wildbow. Very good book.
I started reading in late May. At ~1.6 million words, that means I read an average of over 10,000 words per day!

Photograph of a hand, palm up, holding a green Jelly Star (smartphone) over some yellow flowers. The phone looks adorably small in the hand, about the size of a credit card.
Unihertz Jelly Star. It's tiny, but it's packed with features -- NFC, fingerprint reader, programmable button, headphone jack, microSD or dual SIM, IR remote, FM radio receiver, and way better CPU/RAM/storage than you'd guess based on the size. Favorite phone ever!

I use a 3" smartphone, credit-card-sized. I absolutely love it and I can't stand to use the outrageously huge phones that are mainstream these days. Wonder if 2" would be even better...

21.10.2025 14:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Terrible disease, and made more terrible by our collective apathy towards it. (When was the last time you saw a public place where even 10% of people wore a mask?)
I really hope we get a sterilizing vaccine soon but I'm worried it won't be for decades if ever.
Congrats! I just finished the pictured book and I loved it :)

Textual genAI is extremely useful for searching/indexing, image&video genAI is a neat toy, no genAI makes content worth using/consuming over human-authored content, the societal effects of widespread genAI are worrying, and too many resources are being spent on genAI.
Somehow in the last 8 years I went from stumbling through Unity tutorials to leading a small game studio. We just had the first ever full team meeting with all seven of us and the energy was incredible. We're gonna do great things.
07.10.2025 20:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I haven't tried it myself, but I saw that Campfire was recently open sourced: github.com/basecamp/onc...
Looks pretty good imo, and it can be deployed with docker.
More info and some screenshots: once.com/campfire
This project is so cool! Congrats on the release :D

06.09.2025 16:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Screenshot of the video game "Logic World". Four characters are huddled together, and the screenshot is from the first-person perspective of one of them. All the visible characters are extremely shiny so reflections of the world and each other are visible within them. The characters are colored spheres with smiley faces on them.
Logic World has some of the shiniest characters in all of video gaming

24.08.2025 20:46 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sure, maybe LLMs will stop getting better, but that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about people integrating existing LLM tech into their workflows. Mike claims something will happen to existing LLM tech, breaking those workflows; I'm curious what specifically he sees happening to it.
24.08.2025 20:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm no proponent of incorporating AI into creative processes, far from it, but I don't see how it would become less accessible. The trend I see is in the opposite direction
24.08.2025 20:03 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Why do you expect LLMs will "crash out" (become unavailable?) or go way up in price? Running them locally is becoming more and more common, and doing so is not significantly more expensive than other computer usage. (Beyond the upfront cost if you need new hardware for it)
24.08.2025 20:01 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0What's your best guess on what "eventually" means? To me it seems obvious that AI is currently much crappier than humans at most creative tasks, and I don't see a path for that to change without multiple radical breakthroughs.
