Text from MLK Jr's "Change Must Come" from the United Neighborhood Houses of New York Annual Fall Conference, 1966: I never intend to become adjusted to racial segregation and discrimination. I never intend to adjust myself to religious bigotry. I never intend to adjust myself to economic conditions that will take necessities from the minute to give luxuries to the few, leaving millions and millions of people perishing on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. I never intend to become adjusted to the madness of militarism and the self-defeating effects of physical violence.

#OTD in 1966 Dad spoke at the United Neighborhood Houses, calling for the direct abolition of poverty and fair housing for all. He urged people to be β€œmaladjusted” to injustice: no one is an islandβ€”our fates are connected.

University of Alabama shuts down student magazines for Black students, women students University officials told editors of Alice and Nineteen Fifty-Six that they believed they were out of compliance with Trump administration guidance on anti-DEI policies.

This is what legislating oppression looks like.

Freedom of the press is under attack at the federal level, and its effects are spilling onto college campuses.

DEI is something to celebrate, not debate.

Quote from MLK Jr's SCLC Statement Announcing the Poor People's Campaign in front of a blue-filtered photo of participants of the Poor People's Campaign. The quote says: "A nation gorged on money while millions of its citizens are denied a good education, adequate health services, decent housing, meaningful employment, and even respect, and are then told to be responsible. The true responsibility for the existence of these deplorable conditions lies ultimately with the larger society, and much of the immediate responsibility for removing the injustices can be laid directly at the door of the federal government."

#OTD in 1967, SCLC announced a historic campaign: direct, nonviolent protest in Washington to confront poverty and inequality. Dr. King urged all Americans of goodwill to join the Poor People's Campaign, uniting Black, Brown, and all poor Americans.
