There is good news of people rallying and fighting and launching counter suits. Much of the good news comes from people pushing back on the bad news. Turning a blind eye to what is going on only contributes to the bad news. We must pay attention so we can make good news come out of the bad.

Blanket demonization of the government is an example of malicious disinformation gone viral. It makes the scorched earth policy currently being used to destabilize make sense to the least informed.

The following is a letter sent to my town mayor, representatives and senator. Please feel free to copy:

_____ has always been a welcoming and diverse Township.

In these turbulent political times it would be worthwhile to restate our commitment to being a town that is welcoming, safe and inclusive for all to work, play and live here. In times of uncertainty, fear, hurtful rhetoric and division, we should reaffirm our pledge to uphold the values of dignity,

respect and equality that form the very foundation of our town and reside in the core of our community. We should stand united with, and offer support to, those who are currently feeling targeted and/or subjected to forms of discrimination

whether they be people of color, transgender, members of the LGBTQ + community, immigrants, refugees, members of religious communities, veterans, indigenous communities or those who are affected by the results of climate change.

We should recognize that our strength lies in our diversity and that everyone, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, or any other identity, deserves to feel safe, valued and empowered.

As a public servant you should work to ensure that all residents have equal opportunities to thrive and protect their rights against all forms of hate and intolerance.

Now, more than ever, I would like to urgently call upon you and other community leaders, regional and state leadership, law enforcement, educators, and every resident to stand together in rejecting hate and promote inclusivity.

This is not a passive request, but a call to immediate action. We should encourage all residents to speak out against injustice, support one another, and work collectively towards creating an environment where every voice is heard, and every life is respected.

Your administration should be committed to continuing our collaboration with local organization and community groups that champion justice and inclusiveness.

This commitment should be unwavering. You should continue to provide support to those affected by discrimination and hate, and be dedicated to enacting policies that safeguard the rights of our diverse population and foster an environment of understanding, compassion and unity.

Please take this plea seriously and reassure our community of your continuing commitment to an open and welcoming township.

It's not about winning. It's about standing up for something you believe in. It's about doing what is right. Fighting for the rights of others is right, fighting for a fair and balanced society is right. Fighting for the truth is right. These things are worth fighting a losing fight for.

What mattered was that I stood up and did it. I knew I was going to lose but I fought the fight I knew I needed to fight. It's not about winning. It's about fighting for something worth fighting for.

Articles of impeachment have been proposed in congress. We all know it won't go anywhere. However, it doesn't matter that it won't go anywhere. A few times in my life, I've entered into a situation that I knew I was going to lose. What mattered was that I stood up and did it.
