27.02.2026 18:38 β π 4 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0I know @liznorell.bsky.social will have some thoughts about this situation.
27.02.2026 18:34 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That's terrible.
26.02.2026 20:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This list sounds like the cast of characters of my nightmares.
26.02.2026 19:56 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0This might be silly and trite, but I've always followed the advice to write the book you want to read. Don't think about an imaginary audience that may or may not exist. This can hamper the strength of your prose and your argument because you can be tempted to dial back. Write for yourself.
26.02.2026 14:41 β π 25 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0This is stellar advice. Absolutely!
26.02.2026 14:39 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Teaching and learning is the heart of one of the cultural cycles I find the most beautiful, the collective moving forward. If you can somehow keep teaching even though incredibly overwhelming times I think you can transcend your circumstances just that little bit.
24.02.2026 15:04 β π 12 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0Mic. Drop. π€
23.02.2026 20:24 β π 10 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0If you're looking for the source of academia's leaky pipeline--it's not women's lack of commitment, it's the misogyny of men like this.
23.02.2026 16:48 β π 176 π 63 π¬ 10 π 1True!
19.02.2026 19:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That list will never be dull, that's for sure.
19.02.2026 18:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Gotta keep up with the changing times, I guess.
19.02.2026 18:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0@icpetrie.bsky.social and @thetattooedprof.bsky.social, I really need your commentary on the most recent email to our organization's listserv.

16.02.2026 21:01 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0What a fantastic, vulnerable, important piece by @liznorell.bsky.social. I cant recommend this enough. For autistic folks, sure, but also for anyone who works with human beings. open.substack.com/pub/engagedl...
16.02.2026 13:58 β π 8 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0The "innovative learning AI chat bot" seems evil to me. Yes, yes, I'm looking for guidance on writing learning outcomes, but I think I should use my DOZENS OF YEARS OF EDUCATION to do that.
15.02.2026 04:49 β π 15 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0I'm so ... relieved? excited? nervous? (yes^3) ... to share this piece with the world. I've been wanting to do so for years, but I needed (a lot of) time to find some peace around these events first. #ActuallyAutistic #HigherEd engagedlearningcollective.substack.com/p/being-huma...
12.02.2026 14:14 β π 26 π 9 π¬ 3 π 0Thanks for the source. I'm just very wary of painting any understanding of our students with a broad brush. Remember that there are lots of students at the University of Mississippi, and many would push back on the narrative in this NY Magazine piece.

12.02.2026 15:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I'm not entirely enamored with the medicalization, but I think it's a powerful metaphor.
10.02.2026 19:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This piece is new-to-me, but it's a must-read!
10.02.2026 19:06 β π 5 π 2 π¬ 2 π 0(This is such a good piece by the way! I hadn't seen it before.)
10.02.2026 19:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't, but you're right that it should be!
10.02.2026 18:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Our sociologist friends have been shouting about this kind of thing for many years. States need to listen.
09.02.2026 16:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm in Minnesota today to give a workshop on alternative grading and a keynote on focusing on student learning in the midst of all the chaos in the world of higher ed, the rush to AI, etc. at the College of St. Benedict/St. John's University. Looking forward to the discussions!
09.02.2026 15:01 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0TL;DR The "Mississippi Miracle" narrative is truly a double-edged sword.
09.02.2026 14:44 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0...Constant testing on the standards drains them of creativity, motivation, critical thinking, & all the other things we want for them educationally. Also, this narrative hides the fact that many schools in the state are really struggling in all kinds of other ways. I may write about this soon. 2/2
09.02.2026 14:43 β π 12 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Mississippi is badly in need of positive stories about its schools, so while I really want to celebrate this (and to continue celebrating the hard work of teachers & students), I also know that the "Miracle" narrative obscures how our kids are demoralized by so much practice testing... 1/2
