Overheat photo of the edge of an archaeological trench. At the bottom of the trench is part of a mosaic depicing a stylized flower. It is being carefully cleaned by two people. You can only see the backs of their heads and their hands.

Thought we'd post one of ours for a change. Our Floral Mosaic was the first to be discovered on the site, and here it is, being excavated in 1960.

What a privilege to attend the Fiesta del Sagrado Corazรณn. Held for the first time in ten years, yesterday, on Pico San Carlos, Cantabria (2212m). More than 1000 people, of all ages, made an early start to reach the peak.

Apparently wearing a raspberry beret (the kind you find in a second hand store), this cheeky red-crested, tiny-tongued tessellated serpent features on a mid 4th century #Roman mosaic from Dorchester

Found in Durngate Street in 1905, it's now in @dorsetmuseum.bsky.social

I'm not an expert but I reckon ale in some form was also available. Plus of course wine from Late Iron Age Gaul

Heavens above it's #StandingStoneSunday ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿฅณ

The war memorial in Penrhyncoch nr Aberystwyth is actually a tall quartz monolith

It once stood on the top road to Bontgoch, close to barrows on Banc Troedrhiwseiri - very likely a Bronze Age standing stone

Three waxwork Iron Age warriors.

Three waxwork Iron Age warriors.

Good to see one is still holding the fort, the other two must have sold out. Love these guys, they capture some of the cocksure sense of invincibility you must have needed to run at a Roman legion convinced you had them beat.
They were originally at the White Cliffs experience I think.

The Cadfan Stone at St Cadfan's in Towyn is a fascinating survival from 9th century Wales - with not only the earliest example of written Welsh but uniquely, commemorating two women - Tengrumui, and Cun, wife of Celyn. Poignantly it adds: 'Grief and loss remain'. broystumanner.com/st-cadfan-home
