I'm not much for writing advice, but I'll say this: If you write, the internet - its breakneck pace & cracked attention spans - will create a parallel surface narrative of your work. The ability to ignore it & realise it's got fuck all to do with you, or anything you've actually written, is useful.

A fictional/real memoir of life in outside 80’s Nottingham told from multiple perspectives.

This is the photo that - at least partly - inspired the book. It's of me and my classmates at the fantastic primary school I attended in central Nottingham.

A worn out door in an old wall on the edge of Dartmoor

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: worn-out doors in old garden walls are one of my favourite things in the entire world.

A friend told me he had been clearing out his gran’s house. The most amazing thing he found there was this knitted effigy of the man who had run off and abandoned my friend’s pregnant aunt. Into the effigy had been stuck twenty knitting needles: one for every year since the man had vanished.

A tree on Dartmoor which, though old, is still quite cheeky, and likes using its branches to sneakily tickle cattle, ponies and people when they pass it.

A tree which is so endlessly proud of the village where it lives that it stands constantly at the edge of it, constantly welcoming everyone who arrives, with a wave and a smile.

I hand over an invisible ‘Tree Of The Day’ award to the most charismatic tree I see on each of my walks. Here are just a few past winners of this esteemed but still largely unknown prize.

Horses? He could do with a confidence boost as he'd just bought into the idea of a getting a perm, he's a retro new romantic, but felt self conscious as he left the hairdressers.

I think mine is the 1994 paperback too.

It's so good. I really enjoyed chatting to her. Unfortunately I had to cancel my 3D studio appearance as I was poorly/had just been in hospital, but she seemed great in "zoom person".
