16.07.2025 19:56 β π 34 π 20 π¬ 5 π 4New WSJ article today uses data from the Mapping Police Violence organization to investigate the rapid rise in police violence in rural America. www.wsj.com/us-news/poli...
11.07.2025 22:49 β π 40 π 24 π¬ 0 π 1Republicans are about to pass the largest increase in police funding *ever* in the United States, with almost all of that funding going to ICE and agencies that partner with ICE. Thatβs not even including the additional funding for more incarceration/surveillance.
03.07.2025 01:37 β π 27 π 9 π¬ 0 π 0π¨The United States Senate is on the verge of passing a bill that spends TWICE as much $$$ on policing and incarceration as the 1994 Crime Bill. Building detention centers, enhancing surveillance, hiring more ICE agents, funding local police cooperation with mass deportations. π¨

19.06.2025 19:25 β π 40 π 28 π¬ 2 π 1George W made Colin Powell lie to the UN about centrifuges and weapons of mass destruction in order to invade Iraq. Trump just casually remarks that he βthinks theyβre closeβ to a weapon and apparently thatβs enough to go to war with Iran. Just when you thought things couldnβt get any more stupidβ¦
18.06.2025 02:21 β π 218 π 44 π¬ 6 π 2Despite these changes, police did not report using less force *overall* and the number of people killed by police actually increased. And thatβs just what the police document and disclose. The true number of cases is likely much higher than whatβs reported.
25.05.2025 14:12 β π 8 π 4 π¬ 0 π 1Noticeable shifts in police use of force:
1) chemical spray and batons were used much more frequently in 2020, largely against protesters.
2) reported neck restraints declined rapidly in 2020 after many states banned them.
3) K-9 incidents reduced slightly over time.
Total police use of force cases reported annually by 634 police departments across 35% of the U.S. population. By type of police weapon used.

A report my organization Mapping Police Violence recently published at policedata.org finds most agencies with DOJ reform agreements reported reducing police use of force overall.

24.05.2025 16:13 β π 16 π 7 π¬ 0 π 1As a result of these trends, police killings rates in Red states are now nearly twice as high as the rates in Blue states.
24.05.2025 14:52 β π 24 π 7 π¬ 2 π 0This suggests increasing political polarization of police violence. Police killings were already increasing in more conservative states before George Floyd. But the backlash may have accelerated this trend - while reforms werenβt impactful/transformative enough to offset these increases overall.
24.05.2025 14:45 β π 35 π 5 π¬ 2 π 0Among Red states, police killings rates increased the most in states did not enact police reform/accountability laws. The 30 states that passed post-Floyd police reform laws reduced killings by 6%, the remaining 20 states increased killings by 21%. 18 of these 20 states voted Trump in 2024.
24.05.2025 14:41 β π 43 π 18 π¬ 1 π 0Since Florida passed a law cracking down on ballot initiatives last month, organizers say the number of petitions they've been able to collect a week has dropped by 80%: www.wusf.org/courts-law/2...

27.04.2025 19:44 β π 126 π 70 π¬ 5 π 2The Trump administration put an apartheid billionaire in control of US government spending and he is now *literally* going line-by-line cancelling billions of *our own tax dollars* from being given to Black and Brown businesses and communities across the US. This is a white supremacist dictatorship.
