South East England. Into genre evolution, H.G. Wells to H.G. Lewis, Hammer to Chainsaw. Giallo and Euro horror are my happy place. Incurable nostalgia junkie. 🇬🇧🏳️‍🌈

Indeed. As much as I love a good discussion, life would be so much easier if everyone agreed with me 😆

I know we disagree on the (to me at least) brilliant Gough but we can at least agree on the fact that he's perfect for this role! I find this film rather intriguing, the victim of bad quality PD prints and poor broadcasts, but given a chance its better than it's neglect suggests.

You may know it under its US title Crucible of Horror, not to be confused with the same years British film Crucible of Terror. Its very underrated, a rather decent 70s suburban chiller.

Sadly I've never had the drive-in experience, they didn't really take off over here...

I can see that, I've a few boxsets of Asian Gothic Blu Rays and it would sit quite well within those.

A family bumps of the sadistic patriarch with frightful consequences in a strange and unsettling British chiller. Intriguingly dark with splendidly nasty Gough. 1971

Very much appreciated. I was once called a 'connoisseur of crap' so a 'connoisseur of kitsch' is a major step up! 😆

Terrific isn't it, it tends to get a lot of negativity but I've always thought it great entertainment!

Brilliant, thanks for the link!

Excellent, it's terrific fun! Great way to spend an hour or so... 😱

I agree, the fusion of classic horror, Chinese folklore and martial arts action works superbly and there's some stunning cinematography. The use of colour is seriously striking. Great fun.

Thanks for the thought my friend, most kind! 🙌🫡

Brilliant isn't it, the poster's got just about everything going on! And the film is one of my favourite cinema memories from when I was a kid.

It's a corker, one of my favourite big bug beasties....have you seen it?

It's fascinating to see the influence that low budget schlock often had on the modern blockbuster...

Very much, there's also interesting subtext with more going on if you scratch the surface. I posted it myself not too long ago after giving it a rewatch, it proved a popular choice!

Great film hiding behind a terrible (but fun) title.

I'd pay good money to see that...

Indeed, and 'challenged' can mean so many things 😂 but they still went with 'the world' when really, did it..? 😆

Great wasn't it. If it could move it could grow, and if it could grow it could get you! Fear of the unknown effects of the nuclear age meant anything was fair game...

It's great isn't it, but it doesn't seem to get the same love as its peers. The romantic leads were fine for me, I was just there for the monsters and the effects are terrific!

I believe most, if not all titles, were region locked for the US only...

I do occassionally try to find time for 'new' old films to explore, but getting older myself I find there's a comfort in the classics. And definitely sleep less, it works for me....

Until I looked into this one I didn't realise quite how prolific an actor Conreid was, literally hundreds of films. Captain Hook was a popular chap!

Mutant molluscs menace mankind in an unsung creature feature classic. Terrific fun with superb effects and surprisingly gruesome flair. 1957.

Good to know, thanks. It's hard for me to get to the cinema now, so I tend to rely on physical media for classics and streaming for more contemporary films.

It's a splendid romp isn't it, and so much fun a series of films would've been most welcome. I've often defended 70s Hammer, many of my favourite films are from this period. Glorious proof that necessity really is the mother of invention!
