Thanks Lauren - looking back at some of my earlier drawings I do think that I really have moved in the wrong direction from an efficiency perspective!

04.12.2025 17:38 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0They really are - I'd love to draw some more of them some day.
04.12.2025 17:04 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Very nice. I especially like how you've captured how the light hits the edge of the wings.
04.12.2025 16:37 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Drawing of a large cream and black goliath beetle with spread, black iridescent wings.
A close up showing bright cyan highlights where the light caught the beetle's wing.
Another #ArtAdventCalendar offering, this time Goliathus orientalis. One of my earliest pieces, I drew this using Rebelle on my PC.

03.12.2025 13:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Happy International Day of People With Disabilities!
Today I'd like everyone to remind themselves that not all disabilities are visible, and that nobody owes a stranger an explanation for how they are using accommodations or aids.
Double-barred Finches are sometimes referred to as Owl Finches, I love the beautiful black & white markings on their wings! rachelhollis.com/product/doub... #drawing #art #birds #birdart #wildlife

03.12.2025 09:09 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Thanks, I think they look great in the close-ups, but was dismayed at how little detail you get to see in an A3 print - his legs and antennae are so long that the body ends up being quite small on the paper.
03.12.2025 09:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Drawing of a harequin beetle as seen from above. This black, orange and beige beetle has incredibly long forearms - each double the length of its body. It also has long antennae.
A close up of the drawing showing the shiny, pitted surface of the beetle's foreleg and elytra. Here you can see that the orange pattern on its body is actually comprised of very fine hairs.
Another close up of the eltra, again showing the pitted black surface covered in beige and orange fur to create an elaborate pattern.
I definitely won't remember to do an #ArtAdventCalendar every day, but here's a harlequin beetle (Acrocinus longimanus) drawing. It's a classic example of me spend far, far too long drawing details that are imperceptible in the final image.

02.12.2025 22:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Screenshot of the league table showing that all of Arsenal's dropped points have been against current top 8 teams, and Villa sit in 4th.
Folks, I'm really worried about Villa. Console me with some soothing wisdom, please.
02.12.2025 19:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Admittedly, I don't know the full details of the imminent removal of trial by jury for some uk crimes, but my thinking is that it could be a positive. The general public is easily deceived, vote with their guts and are suspicious of facts. They voted for Brexit and Tories. In short, they're thick.
02.12.2025 19:04 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0An original digital illustration by Loadofolbobbins of a group of 23 moths of different colourful species flying and perching around a lit light bulb, surrounded by foliage. The foliage and light bulb are all drawn in black, in the top left is a section of trailing ivy which leads to two thin branches, on of which has a Kentish Glory moth clinging to it. The light bulb is hanging in the centre of the image from a woven single light cord and the edison style bulbs filament is glowing. In the bottom right corner of the image is a large leaf with an equally large female emperor moth perched on it, just above this is a series of tall grasses, one of which has a scarlet tiger moth clinging to it. There is also a small clump of grass in the bottom left corner of the image which very slightly obscure a large emerald moth beneath. The other moths include a mint moth, peppered moth, ethmia pusiela, scarce forester moth, barred hook-tip moth, ruby tiger moth, brimstone moth, mother shipton moth, blood-vein moth, cinnabar moth, schreckensteinia festaliella, large fruit tree tortix moth, elephant hawk moth, buff ermine, red underwing moth, hummingbird hawk moth, hypercallia citrinilis, chrysoclistra linnella and the herald moth. All of these are either perched facing or flying around the light bulb.
For my first #ArtAdventCalendar this year I'm going for the piece that I'm proudest of, I really had a good play and experiment with it and am so happy with how it turned out. I'd had the idea for a while and then everything clicked...

Yes, I'm fucking sick of seeing that walking, talking knobcheese Farage constantly popping up in my feed.
Thanks man!
02.12.2025 16:13 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0100% Ian, you're not alone in this one. For me there's a kind of intense 'hole' after finishing, but give it a bit of time and I can appreciate and be proud of what I achieved. For me, I think it's because art is a largely a distraction mechanism to turn off my stupid brain.
02.12.2025 15:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yes, the 'fantasy' is an idea that economics could be fair and just.

There should no one against this, if you are in the UK (like me) sign it! If it can get millions the press might start running with it and it'll put pressure on our gov to not simply ignore it!
