Simple, altmodische kognitive Dissonanztheorie: Wenn man die Annahme der eigenen Rationalität nicht in Frage stellen "darf", dann muss man sich im Zweifel halt die Realität zurecht biegen, oder anderen Menschen die Rationalität absprechen.

I don't remember it being explicitly taught. Demographics were sometimes collected at signup in my first lab. But even without evidence for such an influence: collecting the info at the end rules it out for sure, unless one believes in reverse causality.
