What I wish people understood is the way that the condition is framed by doctors and "experts" shapes the way family and friends respond, meaning that not only do you suddenly lose your health but also your community. You spend precious energy trying to convince people you're still human.

I love all sorts of fiction and essays, and sometimes I have such low capacity that I need the author to do all the work for me and make it compelling. This is a definite skill set and one I really appreciate. We don't say about pop music that it's trash because it's not cleverly constructed.

How much energy and water was redirected from parched land, blighted because of climate change? Al is less useful to us than water and fuel, resources it gobbles up at an untenable rate. We do not need to care for AI, we need to recognize it as a threat to life.

You can do everything β€œright” and still become disabled.

You can do everything β€œright” and have a child who is disabled.

There is nothing wrong with being disabled, and if more of us approached disability with compassion, understanding, and advocacy instead of fear, the world would be better.

Of all the unhelpful things available to me when first diagnosed in 2005, the NHS provided a class with a physiotherapist about maximizing the restfulness of rest, and thinking back on it now it did feel quite radical. Later on in a better life situation I could finally understand deep rest as work.

How could you trust the UK's ability to remain conservative around AD when at the beginning of the pandemic no less than the prime minister made it clear he was willing to sacrifice the elderly and infirm so that the able-bodied could have more freedom. And this rhetoric has since grown.

Desperate people will try anything. People don't know how desperate you can be if you have tick-borne illness. Some are stinging yourself with ten bees three times a week desperate. Many people are sell your house, sell all your possessions to find a remedy that works desperate.

I don't know if this is at all helpful but, having gone through treatment for babesia a few times (malerone, mepron, coartem), I've experienced a majorly intense low each time that passes after a while. It's almost impossible to withstand. If I can be of support to you please message me.

A hummingbird visits the garden on one day each year. Yesterday was the day. I was standing outside and I saw it fly down and go to every remaining lavender flower. The iridescent feathers on its back flashed as it flew around the plant about two feet away from me. A huge blessing in our tiny yard.

Fascinated that In Our Time is one of the BBC’s most popular podcasts among under 35s. The young people demand three academics and a peer discussing Demosthenes, apparently. And they’re right to do so.

Have you ever tried airpop? My friend gave me some a days ago and they have this rubber seal around the nose that seems to help with airtightness and comfort:

I saw a great golden digger wasp in my teenie tiny yard today. The purple aster and brown eyed susans were covered in all kinds of pollinators and this huge gorgeous orange-legged wasp lazily swooped and fell among the yellow flowers. Very pleasing.

Worldwide Mask Bloc Directory – Find your local Mask Bloc MaskBloc.org lists active Mask Blocs around the world. Free high-quality masks, COVID-19 tests and other equipment for your community. Mutual Aid & We Keep Us Safe.

Surgical masks are a bit more effective than cloth masks. You can make them more effective by closing the gaps.

The most breathable respirators we've found are breatheteq.

You can look for your local mask bloc here. They might be able to help find you something:

Also, there was a recent study (I have it somewhere) showing that surgical masks and even cloth masks are significantly better than nothing, so for kids and adults who are unable to wear respirators, there are harm reduction options.

I am an avid reader for pleasure currently out of books! So, any recommendations are really appreciated. I like well written, not dystopian, nor horror nor tragedy, fairly fast-paced, linear any other genre novels.

I will die on this hill:

it isn’t hard to say β€œat the height of the pandemic” or β€œat the start of COVID” during a podcast interview. Producers, hosts, don’t let your guests say β€œduring COVID” like this thing is over. Correct them. Ask them to say the sentence again. This is your job.

Though it is extremely reductive, unprecedented inequality is a primary driving factor.

I'm sorry it's so bad at the moment. I've met so many people with tick-borne illness who literally try anything, because we have so few real options. Lots of folks doing coffee enemas, which is too far out there for me, people doing bee venom therapy because it's cheap, rife machines, you name it.

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this. I don't think it's an immediate fix but for me (with the same issue with tick-borne illness) I discovered that lymphatic drainage massage, which had been pointless when I was severely ill, turned out to be helpful in the long-haul time in terms of motility.

The British Isles is a way to describe the whole of the UK, Ireland, and all other islands surrounding it. I don't know if there is a succinct way to refer to all non-mainland parts collectively, because they are not related or connected to each other.
