Be creative. Make the thing you want to make. Even if it's going to be "bad" at first. You're on your own creative journey. That's a personal thing. No one gets to dictate how you get to express yourself. If they try, do it anyway, and be louder about it.

That said, there's always sacrifice when it comes to art.

It's funny, I used to scoff at how pretentious the trope of "the artist sacrificing everything for their art" seemed to me.

But I get it now. Countless weekends and thousands of dollars have been sunk into ChoPro. But I'm happy with that.

Creativity is a muscle. Much like a muscle, you have to put it under stress and flex it in order to build it back stronger.

Also like a muscle, it starts out being pretty weak at first. That's okay. It'll only get stronger if you keep using it.

I truly believe every human being has the spirit of creativity inside of them. No matter who you are or where you come from, you can create.

And by "performance decline" I mean that I can no longer stream a YouTube video on a Discord call while working in photo editing software AND have RenPy open. I'll take that L for a nearly 5-year-old laptop.

I use it daily. Sometimes 8+ hours a day. Still runs great. I get occasional crashes and the bluetooth card conked out so I needed to buy a new adapter.

Aside from a bit of a performance decline, I can't complain at all.

I had one in college. Wasn't *terrible*. I could still boot it up today if I had to. But I bought myself a Samsung Galaxy Book laptop back in 2020 when I first started my new job and this thing has been a trooper.

HP laptops also suck. My boyfriend recently bought one about a year ago. The battery has already bitched out on him. It can't hold a charge anymore.

I feel like there should come a point where un-refillable ink cartridges should just be illegal. It's the same rationale for banning the sale of incandescent light bulbs. It's wasteful, harmful to the consumer, and overall just a terrible product that (most) people buy only out of habit.

It's easy and intuitive to fill and refill. The machine can never LIE TO YOU about how much ink is left. Also, liquid ink is obscenely cheaper than cartridges. You can also use third-party inks and no one can stop you.

One thing I will say, liquid ink printers are vastly superior for casual printing. I know if you're going for super high quality prints, you're going to need cartridges. But for standard printing tasks like regular at-home type tasks, or base-level business stuff, it's so much better.

A big reason why I got so burnt out on selling merch is because of the problems I was having with the printer. Quality was TERRIBLE on so many of the prints. I also had to return TWO DIFFERENT PRINTERS and exchange them because they stopped taking paper. What the actual flipping fuck??

The software is also shit. Everytime I try and send a fax (I have to do this occasionally for my job) the software takes no less than 2 minutes to just OPEN. You need dial-up era patience for this bullshit.

The HP liquid ink printer I have is BARELY tolerable. I feel like that's the business model, right? Make the machine BARELY functional. That way, you'll still get your value out of it, but despise the experience the whole way. Also, HP makes you PAY THEM FOR CUSTOMER SUPPORT HELLO????

HP printers can, and should, go directly to hell.

No wonder Gen Z is so nihilistic. How could you possibly see the world and believe that *anything* matters when education, housing, and transportation are SO far out of reach?

It's getting to the point where I think it's apt to just encourage young people to just buy a sports car at 18 rather than get a college degree.

At least the car can be insured. It can also be sold if the payments are out-of-control. You could also declare bankruptcy on that debt, too.

I feel so bad for young people today. Jobs pay like shit and college is more expensive than ever. Most four year degrees are just simply not worth it. The business model of academics is collapsing in on itself.

Getting my mechanical engineering degree was worth it. I wouldn't have the career I have without it. But, simply put, it was not worth $100,000+. I could have definitely found other avenues to making the amount of money I do now without that degree.
