This emotions wheel is such a helpful tool for unpacking feelings beyond just โ€˜goodโ€™ or โ€˜bad.โ€™

I use it with my friends to dig deeper into what weโ€™re actually feelingโ€”sometimes, โ€˜fearfulโ€™ isnโ€™t just โ€˜scaredโ€™ but feeling overwhelmed or inadequate.

Naming emotions gives them less power over us๐Ÿ’กโœจ

3๏ธโƒฃ Practice saying โ€œI was wrongโ€โ€“

Admitting outdated thinking isnโ€™t a failure; itโ€™s a flex. The best leaders adapt, not cling to the past.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ For example: Maybe you once believed remote work killed collaborationโ€”until you saw it actually increased productivity. Growth = adapting.

2๏ธโƒฃ Seek opposing viewpointsโ€“

Engage with perspectives that make you uncomfortable. Growth happens when we stretch beyond our echo chambers.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ For example: If you only follow leaders who confirm your beliefs, try engaging with perspectives that challenge your thinking.

1๏ธโƒฃ Question your defaultsโ€“

Whatโ€™s a habit, belief, or process you follow just because itโ€™s โ€œalways been done that wayโ€? Challenge it.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ For example: Do you always prioritize long hours over smart work? Challenge the idea that productivity = exhaustion.

Learning is growth. Unlearning is transformation.

@adamgrant.bsky.social is spot onโ€”unlearning is what keeps us evolving, but it takes intentional effort.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ here are 3 things you can do right now to challenge outdated thinking:

๐Ÿ’ฏ Unlearning is where the real transformation happens. It requires shedding outdated beliefs, questioning long-held assumptions, & embracing discomfort. The biggest roadblock to progress isnโ€™t a lack of knowledgeโ€”itโ€™s the resistance to unlearning what no longer serves us.

Chappell Roan just used her Grammy acceptance speech to call out greedy record labels for exploiting artists & described what it was like to live without health insurance during the r pandemic.

"Labels, we got you. But don't got us."

And what makes matter worse? these one-size-fits-all performance systems frequently reflect biases that disproportionately impact underrepresented groups and those facing unique challenges.

When organizations label employees as โ€œlow performers,โ€ itโ€™s often less about individual capability & more about systemic failures in hiring, development, & leadership.

Meta plans to cut 5% of its workforce, focusing on the lowest performers. Read the memo Mark Zuckerberg sent to staff. The Meta chief wrote in a post on Workplace, the company's internal forum, that the company would be doing "more extensive performance-based cuts."

Metaโ€™s โ€œperformance cutsโ€ highlights troubling leadership. Canโ€™t help but to question if their new metrics is actually empowering employees or just perpetuating outdated norm/bias? Too often, rigid performance frameworks overlook diverse contributions, reinforcing outdated norms.
