First bill of its kind in the US! ππ
Intβl code harmonization, cut out of this, was opposed by one (1) interest group: the Big Four elevator companies whose outsize profits are protected by the USβs unique code.
Letβs win the whole loaf in Oregon in 2027 & build the accessible homes weβll need
Trump did not announce a U.S. policy then walk it back. That is not what happened, and media presenting it that way does a disservice.
Trump said words he thought might appeal to his audience in the moment, with no connection to actual policy, then did that again with a different question/asker.
everyone is extraordinarily desperate to pretend that Donald Trump is a coherent individual with a real plan who understands what is happening in the world and none of that is true

If you are watching Trump's presser right now, you are seeing beyond reasonable doubt a person not mentally suited for any position of responsibility. Even running a small store.
GOP members of the House and Senate: You are seeing this too.
saying that trump is giving βconflicting signalsβ here really, really sanewashes how completely incoherent this is, but everyoneβs looking for the barest shred of something to hold onto rather than admit the obvious

The State Senate just approved Washington's elevator reform bill 41-6 after it was amended in the House, sending it to the Governor's desk.
The House's amendments removed language around international harmonization but it still represents a major reform for elevators in smaller buildings.
IMO the Iran bombing is a reminder that there's no "liberal abundance"/"dark abundance" synthesis to be had. You can't make progress on housing w/ someone who will take a wrecking ball to the market at a moment's notice, much less by doing war crimes. publiccomment.blog/p/the-housin...

The weather forecast for early next week here in Bend is... something. Still a week out, so we'll see if it's accurate, but 79F / 26C degrees in March is nuts

09.03.2026 19:15 β π 26 π 5 π¬ 3 π 0One of the things I saw living in Italy is it's not really the high tax rates, it's the little 'nickel and diming' stuff that's truly frustrating. Like the TV tax.

If you get into a βwho can cut taxes moreβ battle with the GOP, youβre going to lose because they are far more shameless and antagonistic to the idea of living in a functioning society.
Donβt concede to their framing that taxes are nothing but a problem to be solved.
This is pretty bad, but if we didnβt have this someone might had to park a block away from their destination sometimes.

The US is run by incompetents, but the leadership in Iran, which is even more repressive and illiberal than ours, doesn't seem to be doing a great job either.
I wish they'd all - theirs and ours - just fuck off and leave people to live their lives
Realistically, I think the most important step many of us can take is becoming a PCP with the local party to push it in a better direction.

"Housing affordability has become one of Minnesotaβs biggest issues...
The cause is clear β Minnesota hasnβt built enough homes to keep up with demand...
The good news is that Minnesota can fix this, despite the urgent challenge."

It's weird how many non-YIMBYs have no YIMBY theory of mind. Many people think YIMBY activists have ideological motivations beyond "build more housing of any sort" and when they've pivoted to supporting different policies to achieve that goal they're accused of hypocrisy or inconsistency

09.03.2026 16:42 β π 57 π 8 π¬ 5 π 2Its hard for me to get excited about voters turning on Trump. Like if a man tries to overthrow the nation in 2020 and voters are so stupid they re-elect him four years later, the chance that they'll forget about this is so high. 2024 revealed this nation had issues much bigger than Trump.

Is there like a 'definitive' intro to single stair with lots of nice photos/illustrations for non housing nerds? @holz-bau.bsky.social @stephenjacobsmith.com
(Yeah, I mention the book, but it's difficult enough to get people to click and read an article, let alone a book)
If youβre pushing housing in lowrise nβhoods, eliminating useless sideyards is the unlock for the urban design everybody says they want.
In exchange for sideyards that no one uses, you get better units, lush interior courtyards, space for trees and play, higher density and lower energy use.
the best analysis money can buy and theyβre all getting circles run around them by βorange man badβ
