Still trying every day to learn something from the past, survive the present, and figure out how to make a better future. Also, I like trains.

Highways are in the running for the most wasteful use of land humans have ever invented. Surface parking lots right up there too.

You can still die sitting in the passenger seat. Plus even if 100% of the automobile fleet is electric and self-driving, there are dozens of secondary and tertiary harms that don't go away if everybody is riding around in their own personal little high speed mobility box.

I wonder what Jack Black, Morgan Freeman and Natasha Lyonne think about their country unilaterally bombing Iran right now.

Didn't the explosive on the aircraft detonate prematurely? I've never seen an account that mentions a flat spin.

Is Martin Imbleau the right person to be leading this project? Hell no!

Is this federal government capable of managing the high speed rail policy file effectively? Also no! Not even a little bit.

Ottawa's $5 billion cut to public transit funding outrages the Bloc QuΓ©bΓ©cois Patrick Bonin, the party's spokesperson for the environment and fight against climate change, emphasized that Quebec's needs are β€œenormous” with several projects already underway. He also urged…

This cut is harmful. Our cities have funding gaps and rural communities that are less able to raise revenues even more so.
Investment in transit creates mobility. Mobility unlocks people's potential, creating economic activity that feeds a virtuous cycle.

It's funny to me how many genuinely profane Yiddish words have entered the English lexicon without apparent controversy.

Most of my favourite Indian foods would not exist without crops that originate in the western hemisphere (tomatoes, potatoes, chili peppers) and made their way to the eastern hemisphere due to colonialism.

Britain's favourite (or second-favourite, depending on who you ask) Indian dish, Vindaloo, can also be attributed to the Portuguese through their colonial outpost in Goa.

I weirdly enjoyed the chaos resulting from the huge January 1999 snowstorm that more or less shut down Toronto and led Mayor Mel Lastman to call the in army for help. My nextdoor neighbour and I had to shovel snow off the roof of our duplex to keep it from collapsing.

Point of no return: a hellish β€˜hothouse Earth’ getting closer, scientists say Continued global heating could set irreversible course by triggering climate tipping points, but most people unaware

β€œThis would lock the world into a new and hellish β€˜hothouse Earth’ climate far worse than the 2-3C temperature rise the world is on track to reach. The climate would also be very different to the benign conditions of the past 11,000 years, during which the whole of human civilisation developed.”

So it should sweep up not just administration officials, not just members of congress, judges and government lawyers, but university administrators, journalists, owners of media corporations, big private donors and members of organizations like the Federalist Society. Is that what you're saying?

N.S. government closing some museums, most visitor information centres | CBC News The province says the closures are related to the 'modernization' of the museum system and visitor information delivery.

Canada is losing museums, and it's going to get worse. It's happened in BC, it's happening in Nova Scotia, and if it hasn't already, it's going to start happening in other provinces and territories as well. (cc: @kellyblack.ca)
