I have Grandkids - so no longer use Airport Departure Lounges. Natural History has been the unbroken story of my life. Watching wildlife, mostly under Dorset skies. Wrens; Greenfinches; Little Owls; Raptors & Adders are a preoccupation.

My husband rescued over 100 #toads this morning...
Stuck in just a few inches of water, at the bottom of a deep-sided pit with a grate on top. He'd walked over the grate a few times before he noticed movement beneath it and realised what it was. Thank goodness he was able to reach them !
A Sparrowhawk perches on a branch showing its barred underparts and yellow eye. Wording below reads: Can you help monitor raptors in Wales?
1/ We need you to help us monitor raptors in Wales! π¦ You choose your survey patch, like the route you enjoy walking each week, and the raptors you want to record. Itβs as easy as that! Find out more and take part β‘οΈ bit.ly/CudyllCymru #BirdingWales

1/2 In this ancient deciduous woodland on the Dorset/Wilts border, Wild Garlic & Bluebells have carved up the woodland floor into separate turfs of dominance.
The Badgers were obviously not short of food sources & there were Song & Mistle Thrushes singing & Marsh Tits calling, as were Nuthatches.

I would have thought that would be fine Carla, if as you say, it's pesticide free.
If you are providing a resource, such as the jute, that is going to draw in a lot of species, then it's important to cut it into short lengths to prevent ensnaring of legs, beaks & wings.
Pet fur is an absolute no no.

2/2 The Wren is often first on the scene.
Natural, undyed, jute twine, cut into 1 inch lengths & then pulsed in the food processor for a minute or so, is always the most popular item to fly off the shelves.
Chiffchaffs will quickly find feathers.
Great for kids to watch, look & learn about nature.
1/2 Who's nesting nearby?
It's always interesting to know which birds are nesting in you garden - it may give you a heads-up that a Robin or Wren may be nesting in your shed or cold frame for example.
I've just placed a container of jute string & moss by the kitchen window. I'll add some feathers...

07.03.2026 18:02 β π 13 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0My photo shows a museum display with colourful Minoan pottery cups arranged on three clear shelves, one above the other. These cups, known as Kamares Ware, are from Phaistos, Crete. They were made in palace workshops, c. 1800-1700 BC. The cups range in shape and size from conic and cylindrical cups (top and middle shelves) to hemispherical and carinated shaped cups (bottom shelf). They are decorated with multi-coloured geometric motifs; with spirals and swirls painted in red and white pigment on black.
Sipping my coffee βοΈ and thinking about these marvellous Minoan cups!
They look so modern itβs incredible to think they were made during the Bronze Age some 3,800 years ago!
