Corruption, mostly. Charter and private schools have been trying to make the public school experience miserable by siphoning off everything. Some states (don’t know about Ohio) have even started funneling public dollars into them, corruption and a massive civil rights violation.

If there’s any indictment of our(US’s) awful street design, it’s the fact that someone can steal a fucking milk hauler semi, drive it through city streets for 20 minutes managing to lose the cops for enough of a moment that they steal another vehicle and easily get away again.

I was just at 20th and Everett speaking with some people opposed to removing these pedestrian safety measures when I witnessed a car nearly hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Clearly we need more traffic calming, not less! Proud of the community for stepping up.

The signs don’t even say pearl District or brewery blocks or anything like that.

The new downtown Portland wayfinding looks more like a Powell’s Books advertisement. Maybe I haven’t really seen all of them, but it sure seems like Powell’s is the most notable destination on those signs.

We were lucky not to experience that while we were there

That wasn’t my experience but I was in Köln, so maybe it’s an issue with that particular operator.

I’d certainly like to see more efforts to make the 20th ave greenway usable for
Biking and walking. Currently it’s just a street we’ve decided to call a greenway.

I briefly toured the NW 20th and Everett area yesterday, & I am confused as to the justification for removing these diverters.

If anything, the SUV I saw drive around the planter & use the bike lane as a car lane makes me think the whole road could be closed to cars, not just one direction.

Given our awful record on traffic safety & the fact that traffic cameras still haven't been replaced in most of the city, it is an especially bad time to roll back traffic calming measures.
