Connect 4 Multiplication

I think someone must have done this before as it’s such a simple and versatile activity for your learners to pick up and play. An instant hit with the class #playinupperprimary

Quite happy with how this turned out! When you need a wee session on times table revision but want to keep it fairly light - get outside and get some leaves! 🍁

I doubt there is a better exercise you can do in a maths lesson than this one. The discussion is amazing.

This’ll be the third year I’ve gone running ‘fall football’ with an upper primary class and it’s such a great opportunity to extend learning across a term and offer lots of opportunities for consolidation and depth!

I adore K’nex but this much cheaper alternative has a huge amount of scope for block play and exploration of structure #playinupperprimary

Number Shuttles 🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏿

This has gone down well in every class I’ve taught, from P3 to S3 football training.

3 (or four) players and three cones. Shout a number and they have to run to create it. For example: 8 = 3 + 3 + 2

2,3,4 or 5 - outdoor mental agility

4 players: chalk lines, a cone & tennis ball. Each player assigned a number (2,3,4 or 5). A calculation is called out & the correct answer must balance the cone on their head, the tennis ball is passed to the back & then looped to the front.

Water Cycle Outdoor Game 💧

Sponges, buckets and water. Whilst the weather is good (…forgetting the wind today!) this is a fun plenary or mid lesson activity to help consolidate some of the vocab and steps in the water cycle. #playfullearning

Outdoor Science Game 🥼🌍

Forgot to post one of these yesterday 🙈 but this is a great game to compliment any lessons around climate action and greenhouse gases. Can mark out areas with chalk, cones or rope. #playfullearning

Some chalk lines and a bag of tennis balls is all you need for this paired activity that develops a number of skills at once.
