I think someone must have done this before as itβs such a simple and versatile activity for your learners to pick up and play. An instant hit with the class #playinupperprimary
Quite happy with how this turned out! When you need a wee session on times table revision but want to keep it fairly light - get outside and get some leaves! π
01.10.2025 19:17 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I doubt there is a better exercise you can do in a maths lesson than this one. The discussion is amazing.
βI started by making the 5 on a diceβ
βI can see a triangular numberβ
βI took the 3 on the left to make a 3x3 arrayβ
βI counted a line of 3 & two lines of 4β
βItβs 5+6β

Spelling Consolidation βοΈ
A great one to play with your whole class or in smaller groups to revise previous weeks spelling pattern(s)
#playinupperprimary
This is a must for any upper primary class (or S1 class) exploring pattern and sequences.
This square is amazing - everytime I think I've found all the patterns, another one appears!
Oh my days, this looks amazing! ππ well done to the class for getting stuck into some playful maths learning!

Get the maths outside - whilst the weather is holding out! π
Thisβll be the third year Iβve gone running βfall footballβ with an upper primary class and itβs such a great opportunity to extend learning across a term and offer lots of opportunities for consolidation and depth!
I adore Kβnex but this much cheaper alternative has a huge amount of scope for block play and exploration of structure #playinupperprimary

I was delighted when a pair of mine did the times table stick method of βhalf of 30 is 15, then double 3 is 6 etcβ
4 super simple maths games π
Love these as they all transition from one to the other - and they also involve all learners being active and participating throughout #playinupperprimary

This has gone down well in every class Iβve taught, from P3 to S3 football training.
3 (or four) players and three cones. Shout a number and they have to run to create it. For example: 8 = 3 + 3 + 2
#playfullearning
2,3,4 or 5 - outdoor mental agility
4 players: chalk lines, a cone & tennis ball. Each player assigned a number (2,3,4 or 5). A calculation is called out & the correct answer must balance the cone on their head, the tennis ball is passed to the back & then looped to the front.
Water Cycle Outdoor Game π§
Sponges, buckets and water. Whilst the weather is good (β¦forgetting the wind today!) this is a fun plenary or mid lesson activity to help consolidate some of the vocab and steps in the water cycle. #playfullearning
Outdoor Science Game π₯Όπ
Forgot to post one of these yesterday π but this is a great game to compliment any lessons around climate action and greenhouse gases. Can mark out areas with chalk, cones or rope. #playfullearning
Sorry - have just popped these ones together using PowerPoint (was hoping the videos would be followable but maybe not - will try and fix it!)

Some chalk lines and a bag of tennis balls is all you need for this paired activity that develops a number of skills at once.
You can even take a whiteboard and pen out and use the scoring for data handling #playfullearning
