#MACUL25 Tackling Cell Phones: Students need to be taught digital citizenship. It feels like there’s an expectation that students already know it, but in my experience, that’s not true. If students know how to responsibly use their phones, that itself would decrease poor use in schools.

#MACUL25 Tackling Cell Phones: We aren’t trying to “Ban” cellphones, we need to find the right time and place to use them. Schools need to develop Personal Device Plans, to give students an expectation of when use of appropriate. Whether State or District guidance is used, there should be something.

#MACUL25 Digital Snacks: Cognitive brain breaks make sense because they allow the lesson to be chunked, but without getting students too off topic.

#MACUL25 Digital Snacks: YouTube has great countdown timer videos that are paired with LoFi music. Even if it is not for a “brain break”, and is timing student work periods, LoFi can help kids to not stress about what they are working on.

#MACUL25 Digital Snacks: While outdoor breaks are preferred (especially when the weather is perfect) this can be hard to do in a secondary setting. Digital brain breaks can give students an accessible outlet, especially in a 1:1 school.
