The most important facets for me:
- Gets s**t done.
- Gets it right or as near as dammit given the circumstances.
- Doesn’t need handholding.
- Gets on with others (colleagues & customers).
- An unwavering willingness to learn, whatever the level of seniority.
- Understands it’s not about them!

Engineers & scientists are all over the top two. Funnily enough, the 2 disciplines poorly credited in (western) “society” are … scientists & engineers!

The top one … I think someone’s degree should be a good indicator. They not the be all & end all.
2-5 should be determinable from a half-decent interview.
Most others from the CV.
Many HR depts are woeful, many interviews are of a standard format as opposed to trying to understand the individual.

We need to show him freedom of speech we have; the US doesn’t.
It’s not just Trump we need to loosen our ties with - it’s American “culture”. We were/are far happier being close to Europe. We have far more in common with them.
We need to realise that all that glitters is not gold.

Not for the first time I am begging angry people to put the phone down, walk through actual streets, go to actual pubs, stand on the touch line at local sports clubs, browse Saturday markets, chat with ramblers on footpaths and rediscover beauty & contentedness.
