Huge respect to the papers for finding both an 88 year old worried about the tax bill on her 6 bedroom Kensington house and a 20 year old fretting about only being able to save ยฃ12k a year tax free.
Top work all around. These are not easy case studies to find.

Speeding towards the onramp to start the least popular regime change the US has ever embarked on

Zero attempts to convince the public this is needed, just a pure power move by Trump to do what he wants regardless of public opinion, Congress, etcโ€ฆ

And while the construction of data centers to power artificial intelligence is fueling economic growth now, these centers, once built, employ skeleton staffs.

The markets are staying afloat right now on the hope that AI will destroy American workers. What a bleak thing.

If we would reach a degree of civilization higher and grander than any yet attained, we should welcome to our ample continent all the nations, kindreds, tongues and peoples, and as fast as they learn our language and comprehend the duties of citizenship, we should incorporate them into the American body politic. The outspread wings of the American eagle are broad enough to shelter all who are likely to come.

I watched plenty of drones, AWTs, CAS, etc deliver ordnance onto small groups of military-aged males who were digging holes in the side of the highway at ~2am in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Anyone wanna guess if that stopped IED emplacement?

To the Editor:

To aid the newly formed homeland security office, some Americans have advocated the formation of a volunteer ''army'' of citizens -- retired or otherwise -- that would be ''enlisted'' for purposes of neighborhood surveillance and investigation (letter, Oct. 9).

This idea strikes me as frighteningly Orwellian. Will every out-of-the-ordinary activity be monitored? Will we have to keep our curtains drawn and doors shut for fear of being turned in by our neighbors, friends and children? Have recent events changed our worldview so radically that we are willing to endorse a police state?

Is America to become a nation of spies?

And more than 70 more people have died since this strike, with at least one other double-tap attack.

5/ Administration explanation to Congress seems to be a bold-face falsehood: claiming double-tap strike was to clear debris, not to kill survivors.

"That explanation has prompted frustration among some members of Congress who say they believe the Pentagon was deceptive."

Criminal liability attaches for following an order "which a man of ordinary sense and understanding would, under the circumstances, know to be unlawful, or if the order in question is actually known to the accused to be unlawful." U.S. v. Calley (1974)

We literally executed Germans after the war for doing what Bradley and everyone else involved did, and the Germans had a better justification (u-boat plausibly being targeted based on info provided by survivors vs.......whatever the hell pete was worried about here)

The Strike Cell personnel know it was a LOAC violation. Dan Caine knows it's a LOAC violation.

They do it because they're certain they'd yelled at and probably booted from the unit if they protest and it's highly unlikely they'll catch an investigation with teeth.

โ€œEven if the U.S. were at war with the traffickers, an order to kill all the boatโ€™s occupants if they were no longer able to fight โ€œwould in essence be an order to show no quarter, which would be a war crime,โ€ said Huntley, now director of the national security law program at Georgetown Lawโ€

Trump has never once in his life extemporaneously used the phrase "western civilization." He was once asked about western liberalism and thought they were talking about California Democrats. One of the more blatant tells for a Miller-written screed.

There is no constitutionally legitimate scenario in which we are being de facto governed by the White House Deputy Chief of Staff using a half-dead president as his sock puppet. We went out of our way to amend the Constitution on precisely this point.

This statement is way outside of CIAโ€™s lane and erosive of the ethical norm that intelligence should be non-partisan. If that norm vanishes, intelligence loses a very large portion of its value.

A surprising development to anyone living under a rock for the last decade

Iโ€™m concerned that the Vance wing will convince Trump to simply cutoff Ukraine (again) in order to force a battlefield loss of the Donbass

Because quite frankly Vance and co. want a weak Ukraine and a victorious Russia
