Voting is a right, not a privilege. It shouldnโt take a court case to make the Labour Gov see that. Denying millions a vote in local elections on 7 May, incl in Exeter, was a dangerous decision. Green candidates are ready to step up as councillors & serve our communities, not self interest.

I went along to planning committee to speak up for St Davidโs ward against this coliving development.
The committee backed my request not to let it become a gated community.
They then agreed to defer application on grounds of height & massing.
We still donโt need more coliving on this one street!

Green group leader @dianafmoore.bsky.social said:
โResidents in Exeter expect to be able to vote every year โ thatโs the way our system works. So annual elections are a right, not a privilege, for our residents. The whole episode is a disgraceful disregard of democracy.โ

It seems clear: the decision by the Exeter City Council leader to ask for a cancelation is not evidence based and puts the interests of the Labour Party above the need for a democratic mandate.

The letter makes clear that never once, since the wheels of Local Government Reform (LGR) were set in motion, has any report suggested that Exeter City Council lacked the resources to deliver both the May 2026 elections and a comprehensive LGR programme.

A joint letter signed by leaders of the local Green Party, Liberal Democrats, Conservatives, Equity Independent Group & Reform UK, makes clear there is little confidence in the Labour leader - his letter to the Minister does not fairly represent the views put forward at the recent Council meeting.

Here in #Exeter we have local elections every yearโฆ at least we thought we did.
Local Government reorganisation isnโt an exceptional reason for local #Labour to cancel democracy.
The Labour Government should value local democracy and local services and pay for them.

Projects costs spiralled (wanting to get to the bottom of that) and there was a funding gap that no one wanted to bridge. The project needs to be value for money and I suppose the grant needs to be spent or itโll go back to ATE

Scaffolding noises grr! Mallison Bridge news
#Exeter Quay is precious & under pressure from growing visitors & resident numbers. Iโm concerned itโs being neglected, we need a forward looking plan for investment with positive solutions to tackle bottle necks & look after the river & areaโs heritage.

Picture of the Polish flag being raised on top of the guild Hall in front of the guild who are a row of flagbearers
Saturday a day of building connections & friendship locally & internationally. I attended the raising of the Polish Flag, above the Guildhall, along with many people connected to the Polish 307 Squadron, who defended Exeter during the Blitz. Many local people visited the exhibition.

โ๏ธ Green councillors in Exeter have written to @steveracemp.bsky.social calling on him to ask Keir Starmer to reject Rosebank.
โ๏ธ This would do nothing to lower bills or boost energy security.
๐ We need instead to invest in the green energy sector and create the high quality jobs of the future.

Well done people of Exeter for turning up and opposing the far right marching on our streets. My Swiss immigrant wife and I met several other non-Brits today who have made their home here and who were also part of the "This is what community looks like" brigade.
