But outside of that, several of the songs in "Song for Another Time" are poorly shoehorned in, and the biggest offense to me is that there just isn't much narrative under the gimmick.
It's a good example to me of an "all sizzle, no steak" song.

"Song for Another Time" has a couple of pluses, such as name-dropping "Small Town Saturday Night", correctly identifying "I Will Always Love You" as a breakup song, and being possibly the only "song made up of song titles" where I actually like every song they name-dropped.

A lot of people thought "Break Up with Him" was douchey, but I never got that vibe. The song is just too mellow to read as douchey to me, and lyrics like "rip it off like a Band-Aid" made me smile.
"Snapback" isn't great, but it has a tight groove, a clever opening line, and a complex rhyme scheme.
Possibly unpopular opinion: I like Old Dominion, but I still think "Song for Another Time" was their weakest single by far.

I heard Reba's version of "Cathy's Clown" yesterday on Prime Country and thought of how @countryuniverse.net gave it an F.
I WAS going to claim it as one of the worst gender-swaps in music history, then I remembered there was a gender-swapped version of Paul Anka's "You're Having My Baby"...
Show of hands: who saw that font on the label and immediately thought of βJeopardy!β?

Hi, it's me, quite possibly the only person who actually liked "Unusually Unusual" by Lonestar.

Music mystery of the night:
How and why sound engineer Czaba Petocz produced four country music albums (two from John Michael Montgomery, one each from Mindy McCready and Lorrie Morgan), and outside a couple small independent albums, did nothing else whatsoever in country music OR as a producer
Tanya Tucker song where repeating the chorus over and over worked: "Delta Dawn"
Tanya Tucker song where repeating the chorus over and over DIDN'T work: "Texas (When I Die)"
You know, considering "I Saw the Light" is one of the best known country songs of all time, it's still surprising to me that there are at least two other somewhat well-known songs by that title (Todd Rundgren and Wynonna Judd)

In the process of researching Saving Country Music's claims of journalistic cred:
At least four publications, I couldn't verify his involvement at ALL.
Also, he's claiming he wrote for the Austin Chronicle, when he took the picture in ONE article.
Oh, and apparently Uncle John's Bathroom Reader.
Few things are more jarring than listening to "Heartbroke Every Day", "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)", and "Shuttin' Detroit Down", and realizing the exact same person is singing on all three.
27.02.2026 16:46 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Keith Urban's "Better Life" never remotely felt like a six-week #1 to me. I barely heard it when it was on the charts, haven't heard it once in the wild since, and no one talks about it. #44 is a super low Hot 100 peak for a multi-week country #1 in that era, and it took FOREVER to certify gold.

I love how itβs been almost three weeks since that TPUSA halftime show and βI just wanna kiss my fishβ is still a meme.
It single handedly revived the YouTube Poop community, too.
I have no idea how Eli Young Band's cover of Will Hoge's "Even If It Breaks Your Heart" manages to sound exactly like the original (outside the one note they miss several times in every verse), yet at the same time sounds about a thousand times worse.

Hot take: Sugarland's "Stay" is a mid song that used its sparse arrangement and drawn-out twist ending as crutches. It's just gimmicky and overstays its welcome.
Also, "Everyday America" was a thousand times better and should not have been prematurely pulled just to rush out "Stay".

Look, I love Joe Diffie as much as the next guy.
I just wish that people who cover his songs and make tributes to him would at least ACKNOWLEDGE that he did serious songs, too. He wasn't just "Joe Ditty".
And that's why I respect Luke Combs and Toby Keith for covering "Ships That Don't Come In".
I've never liked merfolk designs where it's like they had two legs that fused together into a weird fin, and still have a defined butt/hips/groin
Same in the other direction, when fish anthros have literally an entire fish as the head (e.g. the Zora from Zelda)

27.02.2026 19:36 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I get too wrapped up in "make it make sense" sometimes. I think it's because even as a kid, I often found articles and books that pointed out how some key elements in media, like lightsabers in Star Wars, wouldn't work IRL.

I know the feeling. There are multiple YouTubers who make videos on topics of interest to me but put me off with unappealing presentation. Usually itβs annoying vocal tics or speech patterns.
