I am currently imagining them sneaking up on you in little masks and nefarious plots on your well-being (birch trees do the same to me).

Oh, no! I feel the same way about birch trees. Beautiful, but make my head miserable for a bit.

I did this one at Navarro Beach during a recent painting retreat. I just now added a slight gradation to the house that made it sit better in the painting. Amazing to me how one tiny change can make such a difference sometimes

The Ruysch exhibition is going on until Dec 7, so you've got time.

A detail of a painting by Rachel Ruysch, a 17th century dutch painter who intensely studied the natural world. This detail shows a butterfly (black wings with bands of orange and white spots) and a small bluish lizard in the foreground, with a stack of peaches, a chestnut, grapes, a pear and leaves in the background. The lizard looks either playful or alarmed at the butterfly, but I don't know much about lizards, so maybe she's just hungry.

If you're in the Boston/New England area, I highly recommend the Rachel Ruysch exhibition going on at the Museum of Fine Arts.

It feels like magic, and also has specimens from @harvard alongside her work.

Cryptid Green!

A little vignette of two framed metal pieces on green marbled paper background.
