screencap from the above link:

I have found this problem fairly endemic to the romcomantasy (eh? eh?) subgenre to which McCallum’s debut belongs. Oh, I am so tired of reading book after book where nobody has ever done a single thing wrong, or, even if they have, it was all a terrible misunderstanding. I cannot bear these characters with personalities as smooth as Ken dolls, who run dear little retail shops in interchangeable Fantasylands and placeless middle Americas, unbothered by problems of inventory or human frailty. I am going to chew right through the bars of my enclosure, and go rampaging all around the countryside, if I am called upon to read one more book where a character’s big secret finally comes out, and the other character is like: β€œNo problem, babe, I know your heart, and I understand that, while you initially had a scheme to sabotage my dreams, you changed your mind over the course of our courtship. Due to the trust we have built together, I understand this perfectly without your having to explain it.”

if you're doing nebula nominations, please consider Blue Prince, a genuinely very well written and thoughtful game.

Huh, my reply disappeared.

Anyway! Thank you!

A sequel has always been the plan on my side. Unfortunately, that call is not entirely mine to make, at least if I want the book to be trad published β€” which I do.

Last year I decided to put my health first and take an extended break from paid illustration. I found I had an inexplicable compulsion to document all the birds I can see from my house in the most time consuming way possible.

Because I Held His Name Like a Key When I met the young Mr Turing, I had not yet ascended as Autumn’s King. Nowadays it has become fashionable for the sons and daughters of the lesser fey gentry to improve their position in the shif…

If you're still reading for award consideration, I'd be honored if you took at look at my story "Because I Held His Name Like a Key", which is on the Locus Recommended List and the BSFA longlist (and also check out the artwork by Catarina JoΓ£o that goes with it, it's so wonderful!)

It's true that the work is smarter than the author, but perhaps more true that the author through time--across the long process of writing, revising, etc.--is smarter than the author at any point in time.
